ALICESo, lets begin by giving the people alittle background as to who you are, where youve been, what youvedone and what youre going to do?Hi, my name is Alice. I started composingmusic at the age of about 6. I never tookformal lessons, playing piano was well,

just play to me. It came very easily andnaturally. I would write a mini-musical,

and enroll my friends as performers. MyFather was very patient throughout this;). So music is something I was bornto do. However, what happened next, was life.. and all its wonderful lessonsand lashings.. which cracked andcarved away at me the child until shedisappeared.. almost completely..

Something always returns me to song-writing. I have been working on mynew songs for the last year or so, andthey are my focus, moving forward is

the most important thing right now, with so much already done ( studiosvideos stage shows, and the releasing

of my debut album with my previous band)I want the challenge of exclusively writingmy own material, and getting it out their ..I think any creative will have to be honestand say, the need to share our art is very, very strong..

As a growing artist, what have youdone that stood out the most for youpersonally?Well, probably overcoming my owninsecurities.. Its so damn hard to likeourselves! Why is that! Anyway, Im asensitive beast, and I tend to be hard onmyself and my own worst enemy, so for me,to be able to say to myself NO! and not letanything take my focus, is something thatstands out for me personally.

What inspires you to create the musicthat you currently produce?Ok, honestly, I love the dark stuff :) Deathand Romance, lust to dust, that kind ofthing.. Im a girl! My happy place is acemetery, its beautiful, and peaceful, andmajestic and sad.. and that is also how Iwould describe my music at times.. so mysongs are an extension of my emotions, andlife lessons and dreams. Dont ask for thelist of bands I like.. we dont have all day!

Most of us musicians in Cape Townknow its hard to break into the musicindustry, especially when thereshardly any support from radio stations. What is your opinion on the state ofour music industry?Crap. Saturated with mainstream rubbish. And thats about all I know because I turnit off. As for local talent, its clear we havetalent in buckets, but it always comes downto money.. how long can an artist afford toput his/her heart and soul into an empty

wallet? But if like me, its what your purposeis, well then like me, its not all aboutnancial success anyway.. so Ill be anotherpoor artist, and Ill write a song about it.

Who would your music mostly appealto?Everyone! Kids, babies, remen, lumberjacks, Sergio Peris-Mencheta...;)

You also do photography, tell us a littlebit more about what you shoot, anddoes it inuence your music as well?Yes, I would say my pictures are similar to my

music in that I like emotive qualities.I am half of the Sumograka team,

we have our own photographystudio and have been going for 6years. We shoot magazine covers,Cars, Models.. you really just haveto go and see the pictures!!!

Can we expect any liveperformances from you in thenear future?Sure! Its always in the back of mymind, but no rm plans yet, Immore keen to get more videos out,to put the vision and the vocals withthe songs, bring it all together andshow it to the world.

Any last words?Look out for me at the upcomingGasdance Party...

BELCHERTell us about your productionsand what got you into lm andphotography?I am one of the founding members ofBlackMilk Productions, a Cape Townbased independent lm company. Both lm and photography has alwaysresonated with me, so it was a naturalprogression to practice these arts.

    Looking at some of your

productions, you have quite adistinct look to your work. Whatmade you decide to take a darkerroute?I love symbolism, surrealism, expressionism and grew up watchinghorror lms so portraying a story via

darker genres forms part of who I am.

Tell us a little bit more about yourinvolvement with Terminatryx?I have known Paul and Sonja(Terminatryx founding members) for

many years. In 2003 they asked meto join the band on a national tour and

I have never looked back. I amtruly blessed to be part of such acreative and professional group.Apart from drumming for them,I have also re-mixed one of thetracks that forms part of the

    forthcoming Terminatryx remixalbum.

Youve been quite active atthe moment with productionon a new lm. What can weexpect without you givingtoo much away?A few weeks ago we nished thelatest BlackMilk lm JornadaDel Muerto, but soon realisedthat we wanted to writeanother script to enter into theS.A. Horrorfest 2011. We arealways up for a challenge soimmediately decided to startwith the script (ANNA), whichwe are currently busy lming. It promises to nothing likeanything youve seen from theBlackMilk team, but there willbe blood, nudity, betrayal, andmore

As long as I can remember,Horrorfest has beenhappening for a while now.How has this lm festival

grown over the years andhas there been anything thathas inspired you besidesyour own work? The S.A. Horrorfest is one of thereasons that I am making lmsand is truly an amazing platformfor lmmakers to showcasetheir work. I have seen it growover the years to become oneof the leading internationalhorror festivals. I have attendedscreenings where I have viewed

many local and internationallms that have truly inspiredme. There has been many.

...I do believe that we aremost defnitely heading in

    the right direction...

Our lms have shownat some international festivals, with positive feedback, soyes, Cannes and Hollywood issomewhere in the future.

Do you think the future oflm production by SouthAfricans is looking good?Yes.

Moving away from lm, tellus a little bit more aboutyour photography and whatinspires you the most?I love capturing dark and sensualmoments. (My) Photography is

Ive noticed that youvecaptured a lot of emotion inyour images, what do youlook for in a shot?I love lm noir, so dark andmysterious elements play anintegral part in my work. Mostlybeautiful women juxtaposedwith interesting locations.

Where do you see your futurein photography?I would love for photography to

be my primary income, but mystyle doesnt lend itself to thisloally. If I was in Europe it wouldbe another story altogether. Iam not prepared to sacricemy style and artistic freedomto please the South Africancommercial market. But thereare some options
