The Chief Judge, Student Union Government Hon. Justice George C. Ohachosim has sworn in the former Vice president of the Union Comrade Precious Ozems as the new UNIZIK Student Union President following the recent impeachment of Comrade Noble Eyisi by the two-third majority votes of the Students‟ Representative Council (SRC) in a seating held on the 22nd of May, 2015.

At the swearing in ceremony which took

place at the UNION Giant house, the Dean, Students Affairs Prof. Kenn Nwogu admonished members of the Union, charging them to be law abiding students and to operate under the rule of law. He stressed that the Student Union Government is fashioned to train students into taking responsibility in the future.

In her acceptance speech, the new Union President Comrade Precious Ozems said leadership is a call to service. She commended the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Joseph E. Ahaneku and other Principal Officers of the University for their leadership virtues and contributions to the growth and development of the student unionism. She also pledged to respect and work with different offices as well as students in other to take the University to glorious heights.

Also present at the ceremony was the Director, Information and Public Relations/Chief Protocol Officer of the University, Dr. Emmanuel C. Ojukwu.

The Dean Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Archbishop Province of the Niger and Bishop Diocese of Aguata, Most Rev. Christian O. Efobi has charged the University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Joseph E. Ahaneku to always put God first in all his dealings and to always seek the face of God through prayers.

The Bishop gave this charge when he led some Clergy men on a courtesy visit to the office of the Vice-Chancellor to congratulate him on his appointment and to celebrate with him as he marks his first year in office.

The Clergy while admonishing the Vice-Chancellor on the importance of prayers as an administrator emphasized that prayers make every impossible

thing possible and will make the job of an administrator easy. He Prayed God to grant the University boss, the grace and wisdom to pilot the affairs of the University.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor expressed appreciation to members of the Clergy for the honour done him and for their extension of love to the University. He reassured the Bishop that his administration will do all in its power to redefine the whole essence of University culture. He also reminded the Clergy to always remember the University in prayers for peace and good health of staff. The Vice-Chancellor was presented with copies of the Holy Bible by the Bishop.

UNIZIK High School presented their trophy to the Vice-Chancellor from the just concluded all University School debate. The 3rd maiden edition of President‟s Inter- University Secondary School debate was held at the University of Port-Harcourt from 20th-24th of May, 2015.

Welcoming them, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku, FAS who was represented by the DVC (Academics) Prof. Charles Esimone thanked the students for making the University proud and urged them to do more in the next round of the competition. He prayed God to strengthen

both the students and their teachers. Speaking earlier, the School Principal, Mrs. Elizabeth Okeke thanked the VC for his assistance and support. She promised that they will not relent in their efforts to see that they make it in the finals. The Adjudicator Dr. Oby Anyaegbu stated that a total of twelve (12) University Secondary Schools participated in the competition. The competition was organized by the Presidency in collaboration with the Ministry of Education. According to her, UNIZIK High School took third position whereas; Ebonyi

State University High School and UNN High School took the first and second positions respectively.

The Coach, Mr. Chidi Akalawu said that it was only eight schools that qualified to represent the southern zone for the next round which will be at Abuja, with their counterparts from the Northern zone. He said that the best School will then represent the Nation in the yearly International Debate. The debaters are as follows; Ifemeje Ikechukwu, Egenti Anita, Okeke Chisom, Maduka Jenifer, Mefor Nmesoma and Obumneke Okeke Idimma.

UNIZIK is really working hard for the sustenance of Igbo language and culture. This was made known by Prof. Nwaozuzu during a courtesy call to VC to kick-start the 9th F.C Ogbalu lecture.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku, FAS welcomed them for coming for the Ogbalu lecture. He described the late Ogbalu as a great Icon to Igbo land. He said that UNIZIK is domiciled at the centre of Igbo land, so it should be our core interest to preserve our language and culture.

According to him, the Igbo Archival Dictionary Project where all the dialects in Igbo language will be represented

is in progress. Prof. Ahaneku said that UNIZIK has made Igbo Language a General course for all first year students in all the Faculties. Speaking on, the academic Icon said that there is need for Igbos to define themselves in terms of knowledge in order to identify themselves in the society. He stressed on the need for Igbos to have a functioning computer where all the alphabets will be represented on the keyboard. This will make those of our Igbo brothers and sisters outside the country to have access to works done in Igbo.

He opined that the University is working on getting Igbo village where our identity will

be showcased, so that we will have what we will transfer to the next generation. More so, the University is planning on setting a day aside as “Igbo Day” to enable us showcase our language and culture to the world. He promised to sponsor the Ogbalu Lecture all through his tenure.

Speaking during the visit, the Registrar, Barr C.C. Okeke said that Igbo language is on evolution, and there is need for all to work for the sustenance of the language.

Earlier, the Guest Lecturer, Prof. G.I. Nwaozuzu thanked the VC for his vision and called other well meaning Igbos to emulate such kind gesture. She said the Igbo

language is at the verge of extinction and needs urgent remedy from Igbos. She stated UNN‟s readiness to assist in whatever way in order to preserve and

promote Igbo language and culture. Present also for the visit were; Prof. Okebalama, Prof. Nwadike, Dr. Mbah, Dr. Onyejekwe, Dr. Ikeokwu, Dr.

DR UJU NWOGU OF THE FACULTY OF LAW BECOMES COMMISSIONER FOR

Prof. Mathias C. Muo of the Department of Public Administration, Faculty of Management Sciences has been appointed as member, Governing Council, Anambra State College of Health Technology, Obosi.

All candidates who were admitted in the 2014/2015 academic session and have completed their registration should follow the instruction in the bulletin to print their Registration Numbers. After printing the Registration Numbers, the students should proceed straight to the Admissions Office to write the Registration Numbers in their files and other documents in the office. It should be noted that any student who did not complete his/her registration before the end of the academic session is deemed to have forfeited the admission. For year one students to be able to get their Registration Number:

- Login on to „my.unizik.edu.ng - Using your Jamb registration number (as username),

password (as password). - Change your password to your desired password. - Click on my fees. - Click on confirm payment, select Tuition and follow the steps

to confirm - Select accreditation to confirm accreditation fees, also follow

steps. - Click on fee history to print out your portal receipt.

- Click on „my courses‟. - Click on proceed to course

registration. To add a course to your portfolio, double click on the course within the available courses this semester panel and it will get into your portfolio. If you want to remove a course from your portfolio, wait until you see an x mark by the side of the course in your portfolio, then click on the x mark to remove the course. When you are done with adding courses to your portfolio, click on register courses to register the courses. On successful registration, your registration number will display.

- Print out the page of registered courses.

Every student must know his/her password for subsequent login on the portal.

The Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) has named Miss Bridget Alichie, Department of Sociology/Anthropology, Faculty of Social Sciences as a recipient for small grants for early career academics.

These awards were launched to mark the centenary of the Association, which is the oldest international association of Universities in the

world. They are available to early career staff of member universities who have not previously had the opportunity to travel to other Commonwealth countries as part of their professional development and are typically used for attendance at an academic conference or visit to a potential collaborator.

Capacity building workshop on computer statistical packages for research analyses for mathematical sciences education lectures in tertiary institutions The above named Academic Activity designed to improve the Skills and Competencies of the Lecturers in Research Analysis at the Tertiary level is being organized by the National Mathematical Centre. This will help to solve the problem of Analyses of Research for Students, Lecturers and Researchers in Tertiary Institutions. The Areas to be covered during the Workshop are: SPSS, Matlab, R, Excel and Cloud Computing. The main objectives are the following:

To expose participants to some useful Computer Statistical Packages for Research Analyses.

To improve the skills of the Lecturers in supervising their students in Statistical Analysis of Research.

To expose participants on how to interpret and draw interferences from the results of the Analyses.

To assist lecturers in carrying out Research and Research Publications in Mathematical Sciences Education.

The Workshop schedule is as follows: Venue: National Mathematical Centre, Abuja Date: 13th – 19th of September, 2015 Arrival: 13th of September, 2015 Registration fee: The Registration fee is thirty thousand Naira (N30,000) per

Dr. Onyima Jude KC, of Cooperative Economics and Management Department, has been selected alongside 9 other scholars from 54 countries in a joint project by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and International Cooperative Alliance (ICA). The ILO-ICA Young Scholars program engages 10 young promising researchers all over the world to study cooperative in changing world of work. The research report for the project shall be presented at the ILO-ICA International Conference to be held on 9th – 10th of November, 2015 at Antalya, Turkey.

Dr. Onyima Jude KC was also selected two months ago alongside 9 African scholars under a project called Young African Scholars (YAS) to study conflict and violence in Africa sponsored by Guggenheim Foundation, USA.

The HOD, Department of Mass Communication, and former Commissioner, Economic Planning, Anambra State, Prof. Stella Okunna has lost her mother, Mrs. Christiana Ukadinma Adimora at the age of 88. She will be buried on Friday, June 12, 2015 in her husband‟s compound: Late Joshua Adimora‟s compound, Umueze village, Uga, Aguata Local Government Area, Anambra State, after a funeral service at 10am at the same venue.

The Former Public Relations Officer of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Emejulu Gerald A, a lecturer in the Department of Cooperative Economics and Management has lost his mother.

Mrs. Juliana Ugonwa Emejulu passed on at the age of 82. She was also the mother of Dr. Mrs. Nwosu of Statistics Department and mother-in-law to Prof. Ifeyinwa Emejulu, former HOD, History and International Studies. She will be buried on 5th of June, 2015 in her home, Awka-Etiti in Idemili South L.G.A, after a Requiem High Mass by the Diocese Arch Bishop of Owerri.

Department of Physiology/Rehab, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences/Health Sciences College of Medicine, N.A.U Nnewi Campus. She died on the 9thof April, 2015 through a fatal motor accident. The burial arrangement is on the 5th of June, 2015.

Mrs. Sussan Onweluzor (Nee Agubosi) who died on 30th of April, 2015. Until her death she was the mother of Mrs. Chitom John-Akamelu, a lecturer in the Entrepreneurship Studies Unit, Faculty of

Management Sciences. She will be buried on 24th of June, 2015 at her family compound at Okpuno Nnewichi Nnewi, Nnewi North Local Government Area.
