    Topic: Establishment of Israel

    Organizational pattern: Chronological and Cause/Effect

Specific Purpose: To inform the audience how Israeli became a Jewish controlled State.

Primary Audience Outcome: I want the audience to be intelligently informed of the history behind the

    Israeli/Arab conflict.

Thesis: Israel was presented to the Jews out of sympathy after centuries or persecution.

    Introduction

(Attention Getter) Imagine a time in your life when you possessed something very special to you.

Whatever object you have pictured in your mind, now picture it being taken away from. You begin

to whine, get angered, but you know the world is against you, do you halter? (Psychological

Orientation) This difficult mentality was presented to Jews as early as 600 B.C. For thousands of

years Jews have been blamed, ostracized, and even persecuted for believing an idea outside the

norm. (Logical Orientation) Today I will share with you the events that have taken place across

history, covering earlier Zionists and WWI-II, which lead to Israel being a Jewish controlled State.

    (Attention Getter- Suspense)

    Body

    I. In ancient Jerusalem, the conflict arose between Hebrews and Muslims.A. The story of Abraham tells all about how the differences result in conflict.

    1. Abraham had 2 sons; Isaac and Ishmael

    2. In order prove his obedience to God, Abraham offers one of his sons as a sacrifice.

    3. This story acts as the significant barrier between Jews and Arabs. (Attention Factor-

    Novelty)

    B. Due to conflicting beliefs between religions, the Jews were ostracized.

    1. All throughout history Jews had to constantly migrate

    2. In a survey conducted by USAToday news, studies showed that nearly 40% of Jews

were migrating in the early 1900s. (Andrea Stone, Nov.22 2004) (Evidence-Statistic)Transition: So now that you know where Jewish persecution originates from, lets take a

look at how Israel came to be.

II. It wasnt until the early 1900s that Jews were received their own land.A. Britain sought to establish a national home for Jews out of sympathy after WWI.

    1. The Balfour Declaration of 1917 was created, which sought to establish a national

government and later allow independence. ( Ami Isseroff, Sept. 2005) (Evidence-

    Example)

    2. Jews all alike, have an idea of Zionism; the national movement for Jews to return to

their homeland. (MFA, 7 Dec. 2000) (Evidence- Definition)

    3. Arabs have controlled this country and were very unwilling to give it up. (Attention

    Getter-Conflict)

    4. This process was halted due to growing tensions in Europe.

    B. During the start of WWII Jews were once again targets for persecution.

    1. During Hitlers rise to power, Jews were clearly sought after and were unrightfully

    blamed for Germanys demise.

2.David Gelernter a Yale University Professor said, So prominent was the Jewish role inthe foreign commerce of Europe that those nations that received the Jews gained and the

countries that excluded them lost in the volume of international trade." (Evidence- Expert

    Testimony)

    Conclusion

Today you have learned where Jews come from and hopefully now you have a better

understanding of what Jews have had to go through, all in the name of their beliefs. (Logical

Orientation) It is very important to be informed of the history of Israel for the conflict ispursuing today and it is your job as a citizen to at least understand. (Psychological

Orientation) So now that you do understand some of the background behind Anti-Semitism,

you can have an intelligent debate over international politics. (Clincher)
