Ismail Meeruthi(12 November 1844 - 1 November 1917) received his primary and traditional education at home. He learnt Persian from Mirza Rahim Baig, a polemicist; Mirza Ghalib had to contend with in his lexicographical disputes. In his declining years Ismail Meeruthi himself edited an Urdu dictionary, which alas is yet to be printed. On 10 July 1860 he joined the Department of Education. In 1892 Ismail Meeruthi published a book on Urdu grammar. Ismail Meeruthi was engaged in writing a biography of Amir Khusro which he left unfinished in 1917.Dr Rauf Parekhhas an MA and PhD from the University of Karachi. He is a critic of Urdu literature and regularly contributes to a leading daily,DawnKarachi. He is a former Chief Editor of Urdu Dictionary Board. Now he is teaching at the Department of Urdu, University of Karachi. He is the compiler of the first slang Urdu dictionary.
