WELCOME TO THE BEAUTIFUL ISLE OF WIGHT - a perfect destination at any time of year. For all the information you need to plan your visit, let our Winter Pocket Guide help you.

There is a wide variety of things to do on the Isle of Wight. We’ve highlighted some of the great attractions, activities and places to visit for you to choose from including a comprehensive events guide, accommodation and eating out ideas.

The Isle of Wight has lots of things to do, with 500 miles of footpaths across contrasting landscapes and beaches, makes it the ideal place for walking and cycling. With milder weather and longer days you’ll want to be out and about, breathing the glorious clean air and enjoying the scenery.

There are many shopping opportunities across the island. The artistic heritage of the Island means that there are plenty of arts and craft outlets, selling everything from handcrafted jewellery to sculptured glass and wood carvings. There is also a range of fantastic locally produced food and drink available, with restaurants, farm shops and the weekly Farmers’ Market catering for all your needs.

Whether indoors or outdoors, whatever the weather there is plenty to keep the whole family entertained.

WELCOME TO AN ISLAND FOR ALL SEASONSWhatever time of year you decide to visit, the Island is bursting with life.

AN ISLAND FOR ALL SEASONSWhatever time of year you decide to visit, the Island is bursting with life, from international sailing regattas and music festivals to walking festivals and illuminated woodland. If you’re visiting before the summer season begins, it’s time to wrap up warm and take a walk across the Island’s stunning landscape, safe in the knowledge that a crackling log fire in a local pub awaits you at the end of your journey. In late February you’ll be able to enjoy that very experience with the added treat of live local music during the Island’s ‘Acoustic Isle’.

Watch out for the spectacular ‘Electric Woods: Spirit of the Orient’ in February, where the ancient woodland of Robin Hill (the location of September’s ‘Bestival’) is illuminated with a far eastern twist. This stunning spectacle celebrates Chinese New Year and treats visitors to an array of sights and sounds which transport them to the Orient.

With a summer extending longer than the rest of the UK, we hope to see you back again in June for ‘Festival of the Sea’, a collection of seafaring events which tie in with the spectacular, world-famous ‘Round the Island Race’. The festival includes everything from sea shanties and beach art displays, to fishing and food tastings.

If you’re looking to discover some of the Island’s history, follow the Warrior Trail down to Brook Chine. The trail opens in early summer and commemorates the Island’s very own War Horse, Warrior, described as ‘The Horse the Germans Could Not Kill’. During his life on the Island, Warrior was ridden to Brook Chine and stood in the water, unflinching as the waves lapped around his legs - a sign that he’d do well in battle.

4

2015 also marks the bicentenary of the birth of Victorian pioneer photographer, Julia Margaret Cameron. Cameron was a close friend of poet laureate, Alfred, Lord Tennyson, and central to the celebrity ‘Freshwater Circle’. Visit her house, Dimbola, now a museum and galleries, for a fascinating insight into her extraordinary life and work.

Whatever the season, it’s the perfect time to discover the many different shades of Wight.

Each of our events features it’s own unique character that reflects Island life. With such a broad range of exciting events and festivals taking place on the Isle of Wight each year, it’s little wonder it is nicknamed the “Festival Island”.

From walking festivals to Christmas fayres there is always something happening here, whatever time of year you visit. On these pages, we give you just a flavour of what lies in store. For a whole host more make sure you visit www.visitisleofwight.co.uk

ISLAND FOOD & DRINKOne of the highlights of any visit to the Isle of Wight is finding great places to eat and we have a fantastic array to cater for all tastes and appetites.

ISLAND FOOD & DRINKAs soon as you arrive you will find places to eat and drink; in an award winning restaurant, a country pub, family friendly establishments, seafront cafe or chocolate-box tearoom.Every town and village has places to tempt you, so indulge yourself and enjoy great food, drink and friendly service. It’s hard to beat the taste and comfort of food and a drink in one of the Island’s pubs and restaurants.

There are ‘olde worlde’ pubs with beams and roaring log fires, inns in superb coastal locations providing a breath of sea air, and pubs with outdoor play areas and gardens. There are also plenty of stylish and contemporary bars on the Island providing a relaxed atmosphere for that pre-theatre cocktail or speciality after dinner coffee.

Isle of Wight restaurants offer a wide variety of options; from a leisurely lunch with friends and family at a beachfront location, to a celebratory dinner for two at a top-notch hotel. The Isle of Wight has a superb choice of restaurants for all tastes and budgets, many of which have earned prestigious awards for their cuisines.

As the Isle of Wight is surrounded by the water, it is little surprise that one of our main local specialities is seafood, and almost all of our restaurants menus are influenced by this.

Our mellow climate ensures that the Isle of Wight is home to a huge variety of local produce; the freshest seafood straight from the fisherman’s catch, locally brewed beer, wine and cider, organic fruit and vegetables and delicious locally made ice creams and deserts.
