Ogni respiro che facciamo e ogni goccia d!acqua che beviamo ven-

gono dal mare. L!oceano produce il 50% dell!ossigeno che respiriamo, re-gola il clima, ed è una fonte essenziale di cibo, energia e vita. North Sails trae le sue origini dal mare e per questo ha deciso di rimanervi fedele a tutti i co-sti, aumentando la consapevolezza in merito al problema dell!inquinamento da plastica delle nostre acque. Il mar-chio ha recentemente annunciato di supportare «10 Rivers 1 Ocean», la nuova missione di Alex Bellini: l!esplo-ratore attraverserà per tutto il 2019 i dieci fiumi più inquinati dalla plastica del pianeta, a bordo di imbarcazioni create di volta in volta con materiale riciclato e assemblato in loco, per do-cumentare un problema grave e ancora troppo sottovalutato. Una mission che North Sails ha sottolineato già con la campagna ideata per la primavera/estate 2019, «Ocean for Life»: una serie di video e fotografie realizzati in India, che illustrano l!impatto dell!in-quinamento della plastica, a partire da Mumbai. «Reduce, Reuse, Recycle» è la call-to-action della campagna, che evidenzia come nei luoghi in cui man-

ca un corretto processo di smaltimento dei rifiuti, la plastica finisca per som-mergere letteralmente la vita delle per-sone. Ma allo stesso tempo, sottolinea l!approccio positivo del brand nel mo-strare che c!è chi lotta per sensibiliz-zare la società ad affrontare il proble-ma. Anche per questo, stagione dopo stagione, North Sails ha aumentato il numero di capi sostenibili presenti in collezione. Ciò implica la creazione di indumenti realizzati al 100% in filati naturali, che non inquinano gli oceani; oppure in plastica riciclata per il ri-sparmio energetico, che occorre lavare in appositi sacchetti per lavatrice affin-ché non rilascino microplastiche negli oceani; o ancora, con coloranti natu-rali che non inquinano il mare. L!anno scorso North Sails ha lanciato la cap-sule collection «Free the Sea», com-posta da t-shirt realizzate con cotone e bottiglie in pet riciclati, e Recycled 360, una giacca in tessuto riciclato al 100%. Dalla primavera-estate 2018, l!1% del fatturato di North Sails viene donato alla Ocean Family Foundation, un!organizzazione britannica che so-stiene progetti legati alla salvaguardia degli oceani.

Every breath we take and every drop of water we drink comes

from the sea. The ocean produces 50% of the oxygen we breathe, regulates the climate, and is an essential source of food, energ y and life. The company North Sails draws its origins from the sea, which is why it has decided to remain faithful to it at all costs, increasing awareness about the plastic pollution of our waters. The brand has recently announced its support of “10 Rivers 1 Ocean”, Alex Bellini!s new mission: throughout 2019 the explorer will cross the planet!s ten rivers that are most polluted by plastic, sailing in boats created with material recycled and assembled on-site each time, to document a serious and still overly underestimated problem. North Sails has already highlighted the mission with its campaign designed for Spring/Summer 2019, “Ocean for Life”: a series of videos and photographs taken in India that illustrate the impact of plastic pollution, starting from Mumbai. “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” is the campaign!s call-to-action, highlighting how plastic ends up literally engulfing people!s lives in places where a proper waste disposal process is lacking. But at the same time, it also emphasises the brand!s positive approach in showing that there are those who struggle to make society aware of the problem. For this same reason, North Sails has increased

the number of sustainable items in its collections season after season. This involves creating garments made from 100% natural yarns that do not pollute the oceans, or garments made of recycled plastic for energ y savings which must be washed in special washing machine bags so that they do not release micro-plastics into the oceans, or garments made with natural dyes that do not pollute the sea. Last year North Sails launched the “Free the Sea” capsule collection consisting of t-shirts made with cotton and recycled Pet bottles, and Recycled 360, a 100% recycled-fabric jacket. The company has donated 1% of its turnover to the Ocean Family Foundation since Spring-Summer 2018, a British organisation that supports projects related to protecting the oceans.
