16 JUNE 2015 TERM 2, ISSUE 4
Al-Salam Alaikum Warahmatu Allah
Wabarakatuhu
Dear Parents,
As we are approaching the end of this
term, I look back and reflect on some
of the amazing activities and events
we held at the school during Term 2. I
enjoy spending time with our amazing
students, the leaders of tomorrow and
getting to know their unique creative
personalities. From the junior primary
students enjoying the 8 week gymnas-
tics program to the senior primary
student's excursions and incursions,
primary couldn't be more eventful.
In secondary, class captains were
elected and joined the school captains
and vice captains to form the school
SRC (Student Representative Council).
Members of the SRC will start taking
more leadership roles. They have al-
ready started planning for a Ramadan
Iftar and met with myself to discuss
some ideas they have in mind. The
school values the importance of lead-
ership skills and work on implement-
ing it with our students.
An achievement we are proud of at ICOM this term, is having two of our students win two out of five competi-tions across Australia in the Lamont Book Club Competition. Saemah Hoss-ain from 4A and Reehanah Ibrahim from 4C achieved a magnificent accomplishment and gave a great

representation of the school, their parents and the community. Also, we are excited with the arrival of the blessed month of Ramadan. Class-rooms, the library and corridors have been decorated by students and teachers. The school has prepared a number of activities for students in-cluding a Quran Competition, greeting cards, class poster competition, daily quizzes and talks. Indeed Ramadan is the month of mercy and forgiveness. May Allah SWT bless you all in this blessed month. The school acknowledges the im-portance of emotional balance for students and therefore this week we will have sessions targeting all stu-dents from Year 5 to 9 relating to spreading awareness about bullying, its types, its negative impacts, its symptoms and the Islamic perspective related to it. Look forward to seeing you at the parent/teacher interviews on 26th of June and thank you for your trust in our school and the schools communi-ty. Dr. Abdul M. Kamareddine
Below is a photo of the Preps on dress
up day. They dressed up as what they
wanted to be when they grow up.
During the month of Ramadan students will
finish the day at 2.20pm. Please ensure parents
pick up their children no later than 2.35pm.
During Ramadan the office hours will be from
8.00am to 2.45pm.
Please ensure that your children wear their win-
ter uniform for Term 2 and 3.
It is a concern that parents are dropping their
children off at school very early. Teachers are
not on yard duty until 8:30am every morning,
so it is in the best interest and welfare of your
child that they arrive no earlier than 8.25am.
Every morning the daily assembly starts at
8:40am. Students are to be at school by this
time.
For parents or students on Visas please ensure
you keep the college up to date with the most
current Visa or Australian Citizenship Certificate.
Parent/teacher interviews will be held on Friday
26th of June. Please ensure your school fees are
up to date by Thursday 25th of June. Semester
reports will be with-held and you may miss
your scheduled interview time with the class
teacher if the school fees have not been paid.

Please note that the council has installed bus zone signs in front of the school on Wootten Road. Only the school buses are allowed to park in these areas. No cars should be allowed to park there. Fines can apply.
A friendly reminder- No car should be doing a U-turn on Wootten Road as it is a very narrow street.
Please be careful and don’t forget that it is 40 zone at all times.
Thank you for your cooperation
The students of 9A had
the privilege of spending
time with professional
instructors who taught a
2000 year old Korean
style of Martial Arts. This
style promotes patience,
discipline, focus, coordi-
nation and core strength. Students will continue to work on
mastering key skills associated with Taekwondo to use in self
-defence and to strengthen the
mind, body and soul.
Grades 1 and 2 have been working
on Athletics skills and locomotive
skills, and then applying these skills
in sprints, relays and minor games.
They have also been working on
their Fundamental Movement Skills
through a variety of sports tech-
niques, helps them to control and coordinate several body
movements.
Year 7 and 8's are learning about manipulating the soccer
ball and controlling their movements on the soccer field to
dribble the ball, pass the ball in motion and obtain the ball
from an opponent.

Students taking part in Gymnastics Maryam on the Balancing Beam
Raahim on the Parallel bars
On Friday 8th of May, students from Grades 2A and 4C participated in Buddies for the very first
time. The students enjoyed getting to know each other through an engaging task where they were
asked to find out at least five things they have in common with their new Buddy and together as a
team they recorded their answers on their flower petals.
The students were very excited to meet their new Buddy and to engage in activities that provide
confidence and social skills across the school. The Buddy system helps students to feel valued and
supported and creates a caring ethos in the school. Students create connectedness that enables
both older and younger buddies to bond more closely with the school, thereby increasing the like-
lihood of more positive social behaviour.

Throughout the term the Grade One
students have enjoyed learning
about the “Past and Present” as part
of their Integrated Studies sub-
ject.
They have learnt about school, home
and toys/games in the past and the
present. Grades 1A and 1B enjoyed a
fun filled old fashioned games af-
ternoon and enjoyed playing games
such as hopscotch, quoits, elastics,
skipping with ropes, bowling and
writing on chalkboards.

If your child has a medical condition you need to inform the school.
In particular, the school needs to know if your child has any serious
medical conditions like epilepsy, haemophilia, asthma, diabetes, ana-
phylaxis or severe allergic reactions.
It is important to keep information about your child’s medical condi-
tions up-to-date. If there is a change in your child’s care plan or
medication, you should contact the school either by phone or in per-
son.
If your child needs to take medication during school hours you should talk to administration about necessary arrangements and pro-
vide written permission and instructions along with the medication.

Due to lack of capacity and
safety concerns Prep - Year 6
will not be allowed to purchase directly from the canteen during
recess or lunch. Instead they must hand in their order to their
homeroom teacher.
Secondary students will have to
purchase their lunch directly from the canteen, no lunch or-
ders will be accepted during homeroom.
Importantly, the canteen will be
closed during the month of
Ramadan, please ensure if your child is not fasting that they
bring a packed lunch to school
Inshallah, as of Term 3, the
college will be implementing a new canteen menu.
A copy of the new canteen menu list will be available on the
College website at the end of Term 2.
CONGRATULATIONS!!! to our two talented and wonderful students who won the Lamont Book Club

collecting the most. It was about stickers. She received four
books in one plus two extra books from the Australian Girl se-
ries. Reehanah drew a fantastic drawing of herself playing sport.
She received two books signed by the author and a voucher
from Rebel sport. Well Done girls.

Gymnasium Construction As discussed in the last newsletter, construction of the new state of the art Gymnasium and the construction of Davis Creek Road is
well underway.
Due to the construction, part of the road leading into the school will be closed, and the number of parking spaces available reduced.
New Virgin Mary Mosque
Alhamdulillah construction of the new Virgin Mary
Mosque began on Friday 24th of April.
As we have mentioned previously, parents will no
longer be able to park in that area.
To help alleviate the lack of parking we have creat-
ed temporary parking at the house next door to the
school at 85 Wootten Road.
