University Offers

University offers for students completing year 12 in 2011 was 88%. ISIK College continues to be the number one school in terms of university offers in the North West region.

VCAL

The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) was introduced in 2006 to provide an alternative pathway tostudents not opting to enrol in university courses; it is a hands-on option for students in Years 11 and 12. VCALstudents have been studying a TAFE course of their choice one day a week in addition to completing studies inliteracy, numeracy, and personal skills development.

Pastoral Care

Our Pastoral Care Program (PCP) is concerned primarily with the emotional, academic and moral well-being of thestudents and is an integral part of the school culture. Each class is assigned a Pastoral Care Teacher (PCT) andMentor who works collaboratively and in unison with the college’s staff, parents and students to provide individualcare and support in all areas of child and adolescent development.

Use of ICT

In 2011, our school has continued to strongly emphasize the use of cutting edge technology to enhance teaching and learning.Extensive financial commitments have been made to develop the ICT infrastructure at our school including thedevelopment of software, hardware, technical support, ICT labs and the introduction of the Interactive Whiteboards. Interactive Whiteboards were installed into most secondary classrooms in 2010 to compliment ICT in the curriculum and in 2011 IWB were installed into the remaining classrooms. After receiving ongoing professional development teachers are actively using the Interactive Whiteboard Technology as an innovative way to enhance teaching and learning and facilitateassessment in their classes. In 2011 students also used Studywiz as a medium for communication with their teachers.

Infrastructure

In 2011 in many of our campuses new facilities were opened for student usage. The new education resource centre at the Eastmeadows campus has become a hub for learning for all students from prep to year 12. The centre features an auditorium which is being utilised for year level home group sessions, lectures by various guest

speakers and for large group audio visual session. Other features include computers areas, reading room, year 12 study room, study areas and of course a variety of book to engage readers of all ages and abilities.

Extra and Co-curricular Activities

An extensive array of extra and co-curricular activities was organized across the various campuses. They included:Arabic, Animation, Astronomy, Choir, Debating, Dialogue, Drama, Environmental club, Folk Dancing, Food Technology, Forensic Science,Horticulture, Glee Club, Instrumental Music, Math’s Extension, Multi-media Ottoman History, Scrap-booking &Card making, Table Tennis and Textiles.

Sports

Sporting activities have been an important part of our curricular and extra-curricular program. Our primary studentsactively participated in interschool sports. Our secondary students competed in the FUTSAL competitions and continuetheir involvement in national and international wrestling competitions. Our Meadowfair FUTSAL team became first in Australia, and will represent Australia in World FUTSAL completion in Brazil.

Debating

Some of our campuses have debating clubs. In the Debating Club, students from years7-12 improvised theirspeaking and argumentative skills.

School Camps

We have a compulsory camping program for our grade 3,4,5 and 6 primary students. Our year 7 and 9 studentsare also involved in a compulsory camping program. Our Pastoral Care Program also involves interstate camps andactivities for selected students in years 7-12.

World Tours

World Tours continue to be a highlight for year 12 students who complete their studies at ISIK College. The travel program promotescultural awareness and understanding of the world around them. Students are also given the opportunityto particulate in humanitarian activities. The itinerary includes stopovers in several countries and major cities.

To promote our relationship and understanding of our neighbours’ year 10 students are given the opportunity to participate in an Asia trip. Students visit various Asian

countries which allow them to be immersed in the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of Asia.

Student Representative Council

Our SRC comprises entirely of student representatives from each class from years 7-12. The SRC at each campusaims to not only represent the student cohort but also organize engaging activities for students and varioushumanitarian and fundraising appeals throughout the year.
