ISE Delta course description If you already have substantial experience of teaching English to speakers of other languages and want to take your career to the next level, then the Cambridge ESOL Delta (Diploma in English Language Teaching) is the qualification for you. The Delta helps deepen your understanding of the principles and practice behind teaching English to adults or young learners, in preparation for more senior teaching positions. Delta is also suitable to teachers who wish to: refresh their teaching knowledge review & update their practice extend their expertise in a specialist area, eg English for Business, Teaching English to Young Learners, etc The Cambridge ESOL Delta has been accredited by the Qualification and Curriculum Authority (QCA) as a Diploma in Teaching ESOL at Level 7 on the National Qualifications Framework. The new Delta modularised qualification extends your professional experience and enables you to demonstrate your teaching ability at a higher and even more effective level. Being modularized, it also offers a degree of flexibility in terms of the order you study the modules and the time frame you wish to work within. Entry criteria To qualify for the course you will normally need at least one year’s experience teaching English full-time to adults or young learners of varying levels, have a good academic background, hold an initial teacher training certificate in English, eg CELTA, CELTYL, Cert TESOL or other and be at least 21 years of age. Course overview Delta balances theory and practice to enhance your understanding of the English language, while focusing in detail on the principles of effective teaching and the range of practice skills required for the effective teaching of English. Delta comprises three modules: Module One focuses on the background to teaching and learning and is assessed by a written exam. Module Two explores professional practice and is assessed on a portfolio of teaching assignments and teaching practice while Module Three is a specialist extended assignment, focused on a specific area of interest eg teaching EFL for Young Learners, English for Business, EFL for learners with learning difficulties, English for Academic Purposes. The written Delta exam, held in June or December, consists of two papers of one and a half hours each. You may take the exam at ISE or another approved exam centre. The Delta is delivered through workshops, seminars, lectures and guided written work. Practical teaching skills are extended and polished through teaching practice, feedback and guided observation.

Dates & attendance patterns The ISE Delta taught-direct programme will run from September 2012. You may take 1, 2 or more years to complete the Delta Diploma or may achieve individual modules separately, which will be certificated by Cambridge University. Please note you must pass all 3 modules to achieve the full Delta Diploma and to use this title after your name. Some MA programmes recognise Delta for up to 20 credits per module. ISE Jobfind support ISE offers support for those candidates who plan to look for positions during or after their Delta studies. ISE Jobfind provides advice on CV development , interview techniques and web resources to link with local, national and international employers. ISE is also pleased to refer successful candidates to our sister schools in other countries. 2012 dates Delta Module 1: ISE Hove Semester 1 Each Thursday from 18:00 – 20:15 20th September – 29th November 2012 (11 weeks) Saturday 27th October from 10:00 – 12:30 Saturday 1st December from 10:00 – 12:30 Exam Practice Session Exam Date: Wednesday 5th December 2012 ISE Delta course fees Registration £250 (valid for 2 years) ISE Hove DELTA Module 1: £525 NB these fees do not include exam & assessment fees, which are levied by Cambridge University. You may sit the exam for module 1 at ISE or at a local Cambridge Examination Centre. Registration fees must be paid on acceptance of a course offer and all other fees must be paid at least 4 weeks before the start date of the course. Payment from overseas can be made by international bank transfer, in either sterling or Euros. Euro prices available on request. You will then be sent a pre-interview task and invited to either a personal or telephone / Skype interview.
