The goal of imaging in a patient with acute stroke are: Exclude hemorrhage Differentiate between irreversibly affected brain tissue and reversibly impaired tissue (dead tissue vs. tissue at risk or the penumbra) Identify stenosis or occlusion of major extra- and intracranial arteries
