Question 1: Students’ feedback on NEON

Most of the students were satisfied with the courses taught and the faculty members. Faculty members were also satisfied with their feedback by the students. However, problems prevailed with the repeaters. Some of the faculty members suggested increased timings of their lectures from 1 hour to 1.5 hours and inclusion of graphs and stimulations for reduction of boredom in the lectures and making them interactive.

Course Name Faculty Name Comments

EL 309 VLSI Lab Aneela Sabir VLSI Lab feedback was good. I am satisfied with the feedback.

NL 110 Physics for Engineers Lab

Aneela Sabir The feedback was satisfactory, but feedback of one section shows that some students don’t take it seriously.

EE 217 Circuit Analysis Dr. Tehseen Zahra

The comments are satisfactory. There was no TA announced for the course, as I was grading all the quizzes/exams myself. Generally, as this was a repeat course, the students seemed to have a careless attitude towards learning.

EE 305 Electromagnetic Theory

Dr. Tehseen Zahra

The comments are satisfactory. Overall the concerns are with the course content. This course is mathematically rigourous and challenging. The students had comments that uptil Chapter 6 was easily grasped whereas the last three chapters (7-9) were tough. This would be generally true as the content magnetostatics and maxwells equations (7-9) are much harder to grasp than electrostatics(chapters 1-6).

EE 529 Power System Modeling & Analysis

Dr. Atif Saleem

Student feedback is unavailable to the instructor at the time of completion of this report

EE 424 Introduction to Robotics

Dr. Jamshed Iqbal

Overall students were satisfied by the course and learnt a lot. Essentially, there is always a room of improvement. With this intention, positive criticism mentioned in the students’ comments is highly appreciated and will be certainly helpful in coming courses/semesters. One trait which I would like to incorporate is to make students more active in the class by involving them in various innovative activities.

Feedback received was satisfactory

EE 323 Analogue & Digital Communication

Sana Hassan Students are not satisfied with my teaching style or lecture preparation. There are few main reasons for this.

1. They were being taught by very experienced teachers (Dr. waseem and Dr. Babar ) and they always compare teaching style and knowledge level with them which is obviously no match.

2. In batch 13, most of the students try to ask a lot of basic details again and again until they are not completely satisfied. It generally wastes time a lot, slow down the pace and

19

disturbs the continuation. If they let teacher explain in his own way it can help them more. It’s my style that unless student is not satisfied I don’t go ahead. But this generally made most of the students thinking I am not well prepared and making things confusing. I have learned from this experience that next time I should entertain questions only at lecture end unless it’s quite necessary.

3. I took around 3 weeks leave and this disturbs whole course a lot.

4. I should arrange more tutorials and assignments and quizzes must be taken more. Unfortunately my T.A for this course in this semester did not return assignments and quizzes on time and did not provide any help in arranging tutorials

I promise to work much harder for improving lecture slides, preparing much more than this time and arranging more tutorials and assignment , quizzes if this course is again offered to me

ME 101 Basic Mechanical Engineering

Sana Hassan 1. I covered the last chapter which has only 3 topics in 2 lectures of 1.5 hour. Means 3 topics in 3 hours. It was planned in this way already.

2. Course contents are changing again and again which was very difficult for me to teach totally new things which even I learned for the first time like fluid dynamics so I was not confident about those things while students already learned those things in thermodynamic.

3. Students were not properly shuffled in both sections. I have more number of students which are either below average or a very few were above average.

4. I encourage students again and again to take tutorials given by the T.A of other section but they never listened to me.

5. Availability of course books must be ensured in library.

6. Students found the exams more difficult because they did not prepare well.

ME 101 Basic Mechanical Engineering

Sana Yahya Student’s comments were mostly on huge course outline and having three text books.

20

ME 201 Applied Thermodynamics

Sana Yahya More comments were related to using slides as teaching medium. Strong dissatisfaction rose from delivery of course and knowledge gained. That is because I had a class in the evening at 4:30pm at that time students are exhausted and do not have any intention of studying. I had two sections and by comparing feedback of both sections I have very positive comments from section which class happened earlier in the day.

EE 309 VLSI Rashid Karim Student’s feedback indicates one relatively weak point:(1) Lack of resources (CAD Tools, relevant course book)Following measures may be taken for the improvements:(1) The relevant course book with list of topics to be covered in the course should be provided(2)CAD tools (Cadence or Mentor Graphics IC design tools) can be purchased

EE 225 Electronic Devices & Circuits

Rashid Karim Student’s feedback indicates two relatively weak points:(1) Lecture of I hour duration is not enough for this course, so make it 1.5 hours(2) Students less participation in the class discussionsFollowing measures may be taken for the improvements:(1) Lectures duration can be increased to 1.5 hours (2) Simulations/ graphical explanation of the boring concepts can be added

EE 227 Digital Logic Design Shehzad Ahmad

Late delivery of marked quizzes and assignments to the students.

Following measure will be taken to address students concerns: Effort will be made to return the marked quizzes and assignments on time.

EE 303 Up Programming & Design

Shehzad Ahmad

Student evaluations do not point out any significant weak area of course and teaching.

EE 227 Digital Logic Design Azhar Rauf For all 3 sections, the worst rated aspects of the course were quality of delivery and organization and presentation of the material. This can be improved by giving a bird’s eye view of the topics (big picture) to be covered during the lecture and a summary tying all the concepts studied at the end.

21

Interestingly, overall ratings for two sections were higher while the 3rd section was more dissatisfied. This (dissatisfied) section was the same which received multiple beratings from my side many times during the semester for their immature and non-serious attitude in class. This observation was shared by other faculty members teaching this section as well.

EE 504 Advanced Wireless Communications

EE 424 Introduction to Robotics

Dr. Jamshed Iqbal

There were UG as well as PG students under one course code. This did not allow me to specify different evaluation criteria. MG 333 Human Resource Management

Ayesha Bano I received a feedback of 85% from each section that I was teaching. Comments were generally positive. However, some students complained that the course was somewhat dry and boring.

I believe this was due to the fact that the course entailed a tremendous amount of technical learning of HR tools through lectures. Perhaps, this problem of the course being perceived as 'boring' can be overcome by including more participative exercises. This semester, I included three Harvard Business School case discussions in the course and one role play exercise. The number should be increased, as I have realized that students enjoy such exercises more than theoretical discussions.

training and development and employee involvement and communication. It also aimed to develop students’ understanding of how these tools create an effective HR system and the choices facing managers in the effective management and utilisation of human resources within an increasingly dynamic and complex environment. However, one of the topics that is included in HEC curriculum for this course, but I did not include in my outline is 'Job Design and Analysis'. I believe that this topic is more relevant to the course titled 'Organisational Behaviour'. HRM should be viewed and taught with a practical orientation, and the theoretical concepts and rationale which underpin HR tools and practices should be taught in OB, which is in fact, a pre-requisite course of HRM.

MG 101 Fundamentals of Management

Silvia Khatak If one is talking about a pure business perspective, then this course does fine, however, those computer specialists who would like to incorporate their studies into a particular business, then a computer perspective should be added to it

MG 549 Strategic HR and Leadership

Dr. Sadia Nadeem

This course is the only core course of MBA in the stream of HRM. It aims to develop students’ understanding of personal leadership and issues in personnel management for effective management and utilization of human resources within an increasingly dynamic and complex environment. The course is in line with the NCRC requirements.

The module requires students to have a good understanding of key principles of OB such as motivation, team working, power and politics and leadership. It also demands a good knowledge of HRM practices such as recruitment and selection, pay, appraisals and training. The level at which the course can be targeted varies with the initial level of knowledge of the students, while keeping the minimum requirements in perspective. Thus, the level of delivery of the course varies with the intake of students. While the same topics can be covered every year, with a few additions/refinements, the level of discussion varies. The FA15 class was just an average class.

I strongly recommend that they should continue in the future.

The final project which required students to visit an organization and analyze its current HRM system, along with providing recommendations for improvement also proved to be very effective. It provided students the opportunity to explore how the HR tools they studied in the course, are applied in real world organisations.
