generation and stability.2. Value addition, processing and marketing of livestock produce,

byproduce and waste management.3. Enhancement of livestock productivity and profitability through

commercialization under climate change.4. Nutritional, Health, Reproductive and Behavioural management of

livestock.5. Fodder banks management.6. Livestock and labour welfare.7. Gender contribution in livestock management.

InvitationDear colleagues, Livestock and dairying play a vital role in providing large self

employment opportunities to millions of rural households primarily small

and marginal farmers and landless labourers in the country. Livestock

provides subsidiary occupation to large section of the society particularly

to the people living in the drought prone, hilly, tribal and other remote areas

where crop production on its own may not be capable of engaging them

fully. With the changing lifestyle and increasing awareness about the

balanced diet, demand of animal origin food is steadily increasing. In India,

the demand of milk in 2020 is projected to 191.3 million tonnes. But the

growth rate in dairy sector including other livestock products is not enough

to meet the future demand. Besides very low productivity, scarcity of feeds

and fodders, improper health and reproductive management, poor

infrastructure and lack of appropriate technologies, climate change is

becoming the major barrier in achieving required growth rate of livestock

sector to fulfill the future demand. The present national seminar

“New dimensional approaches for livestock productivity and

profitability enhancement under era of climate change” from January

28-30, 2014 will provide suitable platform to our scientists, teachers,

personnel from development departments, NGOs, progressive farmers and

farmer's representatives to deliberate on recent developments in the area

of livestock production and management across the globe.
