On behalf of the local organizing committee we invite you to attend the 12th ISAP2003 Conference. The “Intelligent Systems Application to Power Systems” continues the tradition of preceding conferences on topics selected since “Expert Systems Application to Power Systems” (ESAP) in 1998 and “International Forum on Applications of Neural Network to Power Systems” (ANNPS). It is specifically dedicated to discuss innovative solutions in the area of operation, control, planning and maintenance of large interconnected but also isolated or weakly interconnected power systems, as well as their particular components. ISAP 2003 focuses on power systems operating in competitive environment, renewable energy and distributed generation, but also other subjects of interest in modern power systems. Employment of novel software technologies and other are in the special scope of the conference, but also intelligent approaches achieved with conventional programming are sought for. Proposed subjects should be beyond the phase of declarations of interest or presentations of ideas; papers reporting practical realization and application will have priority. Lemnos island lying in the middle of the Aegean sea with a strategic position in front of the narrow passes of Ellispondos, has always been a passage and meeting place for civilizations from East and West. It lives the history of the site with the most anxious heavy feelings of an acrobat on a rope. Lemnos belongs to the prefecture of Lesvos and together with the island of Agios Ephstratios they form the province of Lemnos. Mirina the capital of Lemnos, was built around the 12th or 13th century BC during the period when the Minies dominated on the island and most probably the first fortress was built then.Participants can reach the island of Lemnos daily by ship or by plane. By ship: From Piraeus or Kymi (Evia island) or Ag. Konstantinos. By air: daily flights from Eleftherios Venizelos international airport at Spata (21 km east of Athens) and from Thessaloniki airport. The airport at Lemnos is about 20 km away from Myrina.Lemnos is of particular interest for this Conference since it was the first island where a pilot control center based on intelligent techniques, was installed in 1995. This control center aims to optimize the operating performance of isolated systems, with increased renewable power penetration and it is the first in a series of similar works financed by the European Commission. This project is further developed and installed on the island of Crete.
