Capybaras look a bit like guinea pigs but much larger! They are excellent swimmers, they usually live near to water.

The animal is also called capivara in Portuguese, and carpincho, chigüiro or chigüire in Spanish. The name originally derives from the Guarani word kapiÿva, meaning roughly "master of the grasses". In English, it is also sometimes called Water Hog.

Capybaras can be found in Central and Southern America in habitats ranging from savannah to rain forest. They do have some requirements however. First and foremost a capybara's habitat must include a constant source of standing water. A pond, river, or lake is an absolute necessity for any capybara. This water is used for shelter

Country: Panama, Columbia, Venezuela, Brazil, Argentina, French Guyana, Uruguay, Peru, Paraguay.

Diet: Grasses - graminivore
