However, from Islamic point of view, the

competition shouldnt be negative. It should be positive and healthy

competition for the betterment.

Islam amalgamates all mundane and otheraspect of life in the normative bondage of its(Islamic) word view.

Quality or excellence matters so much in allendeavours.

It is the role ofKhalifah to excellently managethe uncountable resources, which Allah hasendowed on earth in terms of exploration,allocation, production, distribution as well as

consumption. Islamic values are the values that are stronglyconsidered as extremely beneficial to theUmmah.

Fitness for use (Juran). Conformance to requirements(Gryna).

Quality is a customer determination, which is based onthe customers actual experience with the product orservice, measured against his or her requirements-stated or unstated, conscious or merely sensed,technically operational or entirely subjective- and alwaysrepresenting a moving target in a competitive market.(Feigenbaum).

From Islamic perspective words likeJawda, Ihsan, Itqan as used in Islamicliterature as quality, perfection or passionfor excellence, benevolence or continuousself-evaluation and so on.

Itqan means goodness; it stands for thelevel of quality work. It means, to arrange

Dr.W, Edwards Deming was first introduced to the basictents of traditional management principles at Westernelectric plant in Chicago as an employee in the late1920s. His experience at this company aroused his

curiosity on how can firms best motivate theiremployees? this is because he found the existingsystem economically unproductive

Walter A. Shewhart produced a book entitled TheEconomic control of Quality of Manufactured products in1931. He developed control chart to monitor the product,

when they are about to exceed limit and possiblyproduce scrap. Shewharts work gained popularityamong the British statisticians and was invited in 1932 tolecture at the University of London.

Deming, during the Second WorldWar teachShewharts techniques to thousand of engineerswho participated in war materials production. In1947 he went to Japan and helped inpreparation for national census. He delivered

series of lectures in Japan and his qualitymethodology and philosophy waswholeheartedly welcomed.

Looking into the history of quality, one finds outthat quality is new baby in western history,

whereas it has been incorporated or part andparcel of Islamic civilization since 15 centuriesago

Muraqabah (Supervision)... It is the innermostfeeling that one gets from respecting the factthat the Almighty Allah is ever seeing, everwatching and have His eyes on a person at all

time and place. Muhasabah (Accountability), is defined as a self-

control that allows one to judge his or her deedsfor which he will be asked in the hereafter.

Quran says Every soul will be (held) in pledgefor its deeds.

The paper answers the question whether qualitymanagement is recognized or has its root or base inIslam.

It emphasizes that Islam is not only a religion that dealswith rituals only; rather, it is a comprehensive way of life

that unifies mundane and spiritual aspect of humanbeing together.

Nowadays that the world is a small village through theadvancement of science and technology, every societyor community is heading towards quality management.

There is a competition towards excellence inmanagement.

It is inferred from the paper that Islam had laid emphasison quality management since its inception and thereforecalls for such positive competition for the betterment ofthe Ummah. Several principles and standard are given.
