SERVUS IN VIENNAAfter being hosted four times by the wonderful Kientaler Hof in the beautyful Swiss mountains the European Shi-atsu Congress moved on. To downtown Vienna, Austria. And it moved with a cause.

It is time for us Shiatsu practitioners to stand up.

All arround the globe civilization diseases are exploding. This is a fact. So we need a new way of approaching health issues, we need a new perspective of understanding he-alth, we need a new way of working with people.

In my opinion, Shiatsu has the potential to play a major role within the

healthcare system and within our society.

Why? What must future therapies provide to face the chal-lenges of our modern life, of a life on the fast lane, a digital life, a life of increasing insecurities and pressure? The the-rapy of the future has to suspend the separation between body and mind, or spirit respectively. It has to focus on the clients´ personal circumstances and has to offer a preven-tive as well as a healing aspect. Future therapists have to see things and think in a holistic way and act specifically and precisely. Shiatsu provides all these requirements. Is Shiatsu THE therapy of the future?

Mike Mandl(Head of the Organzing Comitee)

Does Shiatsu deserve to be deemed a serious and accepted therapy?

The 5th European Shiatsu Congress will deal with the de-velopment and future of Shiatsu and wants to point out what Shiatsu can do, and what it cannot, as well as where it can, or even has to, develop further. And it is time to sha-re our insights and our work with the public. It is time for Shiatsu to stand up. Vienna, as a town with a long medical tradition, is the best playground for us to let our hands do the talking and show the world what we are able to do...

Page 3: Is Namikoshi Shiatsu an evolution of Tuina? Is Shiatsu also some sort of cultural treasure? And how do we transfer the Asian philosophy

Dear colleagues, members and friends. Coming together in Vienna from all over Europe, in order to jointly discuss the future of shiatsu – that in itself is a very promising dawn of the future. I am glad to see the ÖDS help towards this exchange committedly and I would like to thank all our members for making it possible by their personal contribution.

Thumb pressure knows no language barriers. And gets under the skin. Just like in music, in shiatsu we have developed a way in which all langu-ages communicate. In other words: we cultivate a kind of subcutaneous communication that, pushing boundaries, has beneficial effect.

Both the responsibility coming along with that and the chances involved must not be underestimated.

A treatment that describes the human being holistically as a body of mind, soul and spirit, shiatsu is naturally concerned with both the inner and the outer orientation we can assume in society, in times like these.

Tradition is all that we can carry out. Handing on and developing further what shiatsu is and can be.

We reside and work on a store of knowledge that must be recovered again and again – for future generations. Recording and sharing – holding together – our knowledge to date.

May many kinds of transborder effects and practices be reflected in this Europe-wide space of vibrancy; that’s my opening wish.

Welcome, yours sincerely

Alexander R. TavakoliObmann des ÖDS

THE PROGRAMMThe European Shiatsu Congress has four major topics. Panel discussions, practical workshops, presentations and open clinics will invite you to get in an inspiring contact with each topic from various angels. You can filter the courses after topic and form. All courses will be held several times at the congress to make sure, you can see what you want to see.

Shiatsu as Therapy: Future therapists have to see things and think in a holistic way and act specifically and precisely. Shiatsu provides all these requirements. Is Shiatsu THE therapy of the future? Does Shiatsu deserve to be deemed a serious and accepted therapy?

Shiatsu and Communication: What are the goals, chances and limits of using speech and verbal communication before, during and after the Shi-atsu treatment? How can language support and strengthen the goals and effects of shiatsu?

Shiatsu Evolution: Shiatsu has a tradition. But what exactly is traditional Shiatsu anyway? Is Masunaga Shiatsu already an evolution of Namikoshi Shiatsu? Is Namikoshi Shiatsu an evolution of Tuina? Is Shiatsu also some sort of cultural treasure? And how do we transfer the Asian philosophy properly in a western society? Do we loose something in Shiatsu due to the evolution of too many different styles? Is evolution a risk or a chance?

Shiatsu as a Profession: What is the problem of shiatsu in Europe? What could be chances and drivers for a new breeze into shiatsu? Do we need reglemted professions to be more sucessful? If yes, how should this pro-fession look like? Is shiatsu a method or a profession? What is the future of Shiatsu? And how can we create this future?

> Early bird bonus: If you took advantage of the early bird price, you have course priority, which means, you can choose your courses first. To ensure a maximum quality of the courses, we have to limit the number of participants per course, but don’t worry, we have plenty of space ;)

REGISTRATION You have to register online for the European Shiatsu Congress. On our web-site you can find all relevant information concerning accommodation, food, how to get to the Congress locations etc… After successful registration you will get your invoice via e-mail. And you will get an e-mail concerning the courses you would like to see. Depending on the total of registrations, we might change some aspects of the program, so that everyone can follow the courses they want to see. The congress fee includes all courses of the booked day (or days). The celebration in the Wiener Akademie of Wissen-schaften is open for all participants with a 4 days pass or a pass for Saturday.

> All courses of the congress are recognized by the according asso-ciations as a post graduate training (around 8 hours per day, in total around 32 hours for the whole congress). You will receive an official course confirmation after each course you attend.

WAKE UP!During the whole congress there will be a special moring program for all persons with a 4 days pass. You will meet experts from Chi Kung, Tai Chi, Yoga and meditation to wake up your Chi...
