When the first rays of the sun fall on a dewdrop, it shimmers like a jewel. Should we give the sun credit for this? Or should the credit go to the dewdrop?

While the sun creates this miracle of nature with its glorious light, it does not choose to shine on that particular dewdrop. The dewdrop contributes to this spectacle even if it is simply by being there.

We are in a similar position in Life today. We are living in our country at a time of growth and prosperity. While we have all the virtues of hard work, commitment and passion for achievement, we are also being rewarded substantially simply for being in the right place at the right time.

Opportunity is all around us. Careers progress rapidly; power, position, prestige and higher earnings come far more easily, and much earlier in life. This is a very happy situation, and all of you must make the most of it.

However, you must also remember that success comes from a lot of factors a good season, a weak competitor, a block buster product and if you want to be successful in the long term, you must learn to give credit to these, continuously evaluating the extent of your own role, and demonstrating the willingness and ability to play a larger and more effective role in the future.

Don’t let complacency set in. Continuously challenge yourself. Think of yourself as the dewdrop and the opportunities in front of you as the sun’s rays. Stay ready and receptive, and let the brilliance of the rays transform you into a precious gem.
