is homework necessary

1
A huge question that many students all over the world as and wonder is does homework really help your educational needs? Honestly, it’s hard to find an exact answer to that question and for years scientists have been studying to find the truth about it, parents have even cracked down and given up on homework while some studies show there is some good learning experiences from doing homework. There is no doubt that most of the students in classes ranging from grades three and up all believe that homework actually doesn’t do anything to help you learn and there really isn’t any set in stone answer, the answer depends on the person or people the scientists are studying, what grade they are in and what subject the homework is based on. One study shows that students assigned homework in the second grade did better on math tests; third and fourth graders did better on English skills and vocabulary tests; fifth graders did better on social studies tests; ninth through twelfth grades did better on American history tests; and twelfth graders did best on Shakespeare tests. But is there really a way to prove it? Homework is given in every subject when we as students don’t apparently need it. There was a couple in Canada named Shelli and Tom Milley who launched a case about letting their children not do homework for the rest of their school life. Shelli stated “We think it’s a parents right to choose what’s in our child’s best interest, but we are thankful the school did the right thing”. After two years of working on their case, Shelli and Tom got their Differentiated Homework Plan, which made it so their two youngest children (ages 10 and 11) will never have to do homework again while attending their current school. The two paged plan, signed by the two children, the parents and the teachers states that “homework will not be used as a form of evaluation for the children”. But the kids promised to get their work done in class, to go to school prepared, and to study for all tests. But what Shelli says is true. Shelli told Canada’s Globe and Mail newspaper “It was a constant homework battle every night. It’s hard to get a weeping child to take in math problems. They are tired. They shouldn’t have to work a second shift”. And it’s the same with teenagers, a lot of teens have jobs plus having five subjects of homework makes life quite stressful. “Why were we putting our family through stress”. Shelli wondered. “If we don’t want it all, we shouldn’t have to have it”. Homework is really stressful on everyone, the students and the parents who are trying to get the child to do the work. Homework may help some people but it can also make others stress out. This answer, the answer we as students all want to know most likely will never have be exact, so us students will still have to come up with lame corny excuses like my dog ate my homework, or my little sibling colored all over it. So good luck students, finish your homework because really, you have no other choice.

A huge question that many students all over the world as and wonder is does homework really

help your educational needs? Honestly, it’s hard to find an exact answer to that question and for years

scientists have been studying to find the truth about it, parents have even cracked down and given up

on homework while some studies show there is some good learning experiences from doing homework.

There is no doubt that most of the students in classes ranging from grades three and up all

believe that homework actually doesn’t do anything to help you learn and there really isn’t any set in

stone answer, the answer depends on the person or people the scientists are studying, what grade they

are in and what subject the homework is based on. One study shows that students assigned homework

in the second grade did better on math tests; third and fourth graders did better on English skills and

vocabulary tests; fifth graders did better on social studies tests; ninth through twelfth grades did better

on American history tests; and twelfth graders did best on Shakespeare tests. But is there really a way to

prove it? Homework is given in every subject when we as students don’t apparently need it.

There was a couple in Canada named Shelli and Tom Milley who launched a case about letting

their children not do homework for the rest of their school life. Shelli stated “We think it’s a parents

right to choose what’s in our child’s best interest, but we are thankful the school did the right thing”.

After two years of working on their case, Shelli and Tom got their Differentiated Homework Plan, which

made it so their two youngest children (ages 10 and 11) will never have to do homework again while

attending their current school. The two paged plan, signed by the two children, the parents and the

teachers states that “homework will not be used as a form of evaluation for the children”. But the kids

promised to get their work done in class, to go to school prepared, and to study for all tests. But what

Shelli says is true. Shelli told Canada’s Globe and Mail newspaper “It was a constant homework battle

every night. It’s hard to get a weeping child to take in math problems. They are tired. They shouldn’t

have to work a second shift”. And it’s the same with teenagers, a lot of teens have jobs plus having five

subjects of homework makes life quite stressful. “Why were we putting our family through stress”. Shelli

wondered. “If we don’t want it all, we shouldn’t have to have it”. Homework is really stressful on

everyone, the students and the parents who are trying to get the child to do the work.

Homework may help some people but it can also make others stress out. This answer, the

answer we as students all want to know most likely will never have be exact, so us students will still

have to come up with lame corny excuses like my dog ate my homework, or my little sibling colored all

over it. So good luck students, finish your homework because really, you have no other choice.
