UX DESIGN IS CHANGING THE WORLD

NOT-SO-OBVIOUS WAYS

THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY

Stepping into a car in 2017 looks quite a bit different than it did in, say, 2000.

The technology that comes standard in the cars we drive today is remarkable. Touch and digital consoles allow drivers to control their entertainment, view live maps directing them where to go and utilize rear cameras for parking.

UXD has played a large role in this auto evolution. Through the design and introduction of these digital interfaces in our cars, UX professionals have fundamentally changed the driving experience, as well as our expectations of what a car should be.1

As technologies become even more advanced, our cars will as well. That said, the automotive industry and UX design seem like they’ll be a perfect pair for a long time to come.

THE PUBLISHING INDUSTRY

Perhaps one of the most obvious UX design career applications is, well, designing phone and tablet apps.

Among the many apps that are enhancing our daily lives are those in the “FinTech” sector.2 Better known as financial technology, FinTech encompasses the financial and banking innovations that have helped millions of people organize their money—all in the palms of their hands.

FinTech includes mobile banking apps as well as platforms that allow you to organize your finances in a simple, understandable fashion. Similar money-management apps also give the masses easy access to the stock market, allowing people to tradeindividual stocks on their own. The results for us all are simple: We gain more control of our finances.

In many ways, the organization of financial apps has made a seemingly impossible task for some doable (and, dare we say, simple). Not surprisingly, at the heart of these FinTech masterpieces, are UX designers.

UXD is crucial to a user’s ability to navigate and actually use these amazing financial tools. Making the world of money—understanding it and saving it—more accessible to everyone is truly a noble task, and it’s one that UX designers will continue to pursue in the foreseeable future.

E-readers. You might love them. You may feel just the opposite.

The advancements in digital technology now allow readers to save both space and money. And who are the ones at the helm of making this experience user-friendly and enjoyable?

Either way, the fact of the matter is that content, everything from magazines to long-form books, has gone digital. Imagine, the ability to carry hundreds of books in a single device the size of Of Mice and Men. This is exactly what’s happened!
