o. FOREWORD
0.1 This Indian Standard was adopted by the Indian Standards Institutionon 29 November 1976, after the draft finalized by the Pest ControlSectional Committee had been approved by the Agricultural and FoodProducts Division Councrl and Chemical Division Council.
0.2 Oxydemeton-rnethyl emulsifiable concentrates are largely used in thecontrol of insects pest of agricultural importance. They are speciallyused in the control of sucking pests.
O.:J The emulsifiable concentrate formulation is manufactured to contain25 percent ( mass/mass), oxydemeton-methyI.
0.4 In the preparvtion of this standard, due consideration has been gIvento the provJSions of the Insecticides Act, 1968, and the Rules framed thereunder. However, this standard is subject to the restrictions imposedunder these, wherever applicable.
0.5 For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement ofthis standard is complied with, the final value, observed or calculated,expressing the result of a test or analysis, shall be rounded off inaccordance with IS : 2-1960·. The number of significant places retainedin the rounded off value should be the same as that of the specified valuein this standard.
1. SCOPE
1.1 This standard prescribes the requirements and the methods ofsampling and test for oxydemeton-methyl emulsifiable concentrates.
2. REQ.UIREMENTS
2.1 CODstituents - The material shall consist of oxydemeton·methyltechnical concentrate, dissolved in suitable solvent(s), together withemulsifying agent(s), and with or without stabilizerfs),

2.1.1 Oxydemeton-methyl, technical concentrate employed in themanufacture of this material shall conform to IS : 8258-1976-.
2.2 Physlcal- The material shall comply with the physical requirements specified in 2.2.1 to 2.2.5.
2.2.1 Description - The material shall be a stable liquid and shall befree from suspended matter and sediment.
2.2.2 Cold Test- No turbidity or separation of solid and/or oilymatter shall occur when the material is subjected to the cold test at10°C as prescribed in 13.1 of IS: 6940-1973t or at any other lowertemperature as agreed to between the pu rchaser and the vendor.
2.23 Flash Point ( Abel) - When determined by the method prescribedin IS: 1448 [P: 20 ]-1960t. the flash point of the material shall be above24·5'C.
2.2•• Emul.rion Stabiliry - The creaming or the sediment, if any, shall notin either case exceed 2'0 ml at the top or bottom of the IOQ-ml cylinder,when tested by one of the methods prescribed in 13.3 of IS : 6940-1973t.
2.2.5 Heat Stabiliry - After treating in accordance with the methodprescribed in 13•• of IS : 694Q-1973t. the material shall comply with therequirements of 2.2.1 to 2.2.4 and 2.3.1.

2.3.1 Oxydemeton-Methyl Content - When determined by the methodprescribed in Appendrx A of IS : 8258-1976*, the observed oxydemetonmethyl content, percent by mass, of any of the samples shall not differfrom the nominal value by more than the appropriate percent tolerancewhen applied to the declared nominal value as given below:

2.3.1.1 The actual value of the oxydemeton-methyl content in theformulation shall be calculated [0 the second decimal place for roundingoff the first decimal place before applying the tolerances g.ven in 2.3.1.

2.3.2 Atidi!JIAlkali"ity - When tested by the method prescribedin 11.3 of IS : 6940-1973·, the acidity (as HISO.), or alkalinity (asNaOH) shall be not more than 1'5 and 0'01 percent by mass respectively.
3. PACKING AND MARKING3.1 Packing - The material shall be packed in clean and dry containersmade of mild steel or tin plate or aluminium. Mild steel or tin platecontainers shall be suitably and properly lacquered from inside. Thocontainers shall also conform to the various general requirementsstipulated in 2 orIS: 8190 (Part II )-1976t.3.2 Marking - The containers shall bear legibly and indelibly thefollowing information in addition to the information as is necessaryunder the Insecticides Act and Rules:
a) Name of the material;b) Name of the manufacturer;c) Date of manufacture;d) Batch number;e) Net volume of contents;f) Nominal oxydemeton-methyl content, percent ( mlm ); andg) The minimum cautionary notice worded as under:
'AVOID CONTAMINATION OF FOODSTUFFS ANDANIMAL FEEDS, AND INHALATION OF DUSTS ANDMISTS MADE FROM THIS INSECTICIDE. IF IT COMESIN CONTACT WITH SKIN, WASH WITH SOAP ANDWATER. DO NOT USE THIS CONTAINER FOR ANYOTHER PURPOSE EXCEPT FOR STORAGE OF PESTICIDES. IN CASE OF POISONING CALL A PHYSICIAN.ANTIDOTE - ATROPINE SUPPORTED BY2·PAM (2·PYRIDINE-2-ALDOXINE-N·METHYLlODIDE).'
3.2.1 In addition to the above, the container shall also be marked withsymbol for danger of poisoning as specified in IS : 1260 ( Part II )-1973:.
3.2.2 The containers may also he marked with the Standard Mark.
NOTE - The use of the Standard Mark is governed by the proYISIOnS of theBureau of Indian Standards Act , 19~6 and the Rules and Regulanons made thereunder The Standard Mark on products covered by an Indian Standard conveysthe assurance that they have been produced to comply WIth the requirements of thatstandard under a well defined system or Inspection, testing and quality controlwhich IS devised and supervised by BIS and operated by the producer Standardmarked products are also conunuously checked by BIS for conformity to thatstandard as. a further safeguard. Details of conditions under WhICh a licence forthe use of the Standard Mark may be granted to manufacturers or producers maybe obtamed from the Bureau of Indian Standards.

4. SAMPLING
4.1 Representative samples of the material shall be drawn as prescribedin ' Indian Standard Methods for samphng of pesticides and their formuIarion.' ( undeT preparatwn).

5. TESTS
5.1 Tests shall be carried out by the appropriate methods referred toin 2.2.2; 2.2.3; 2.2••, 2.2.5, 2.3.1 and 2.3.2.
5.2 Q,uality oC Reagents - Unless specified otherwise, pure chemicalsand distilled water (see IS : 1070-196C· ) shall be employed in tests,
