( First Revision)o. FO RE WO RD
0.1 This Indian Standard (First Revision) was adopted by the IndianStandards Institution on 28 July 1981, after the draft finalized by the PestControl Sectional Committee had been approved by the Agricultural andFood Products Division Council and the Chemical Division Council.
0.2 This standard was first published in 1966. It has been revised toupgrade the purity of zineb content and to incorporate additional requirements for zinc content. Besides an opportunity has been taken to givereference to test methods prescribed in IS: 6940-J973· for the sake ofuniformity.0.3 Zineb, technical, is employed for the preparation of formulations, which are used for the control of fungus and bacterial diseases of plants.
0.4 Zineb is the accepted common name approved by the InternationalOrganization for Standardization ( ISO ) for the pesticidal chemical zincethylene-I, 2-bisdithiocarbamate. The empirical and structural formulaeand molecular mass of zineb are as given below:Empirical Formula Structural Formula

However, this standard is subject to the restrictions imposed under thesewherever applicable.
0.6 For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of thisstandard is complied with, the final value, observed or calculated, expressingthe result of a test or analysis, shall be rounded off in accordance withIS : 2·1960*. The number of significant places retained in the rounded offvalue should be the same as that of the specified valuein this standard.
1. SCOPE
1.1 This standard prescribes the requirements and the methods of samplingand test for zineb, technical.
2. REQUIREMENTS

DETERMINATION OF ZINEB, TECHNICAL
A-G. PRINCIPLE
A-G.l Zineb is digested with sulphuric acid and the liberated carbon disulphide is allowed to react with alcoholic potassium hydroxide, and potassiummethyl xanthogenate so produced is titrated with iodine.
A-I. REAGENTS
A-I.I Lead Acetate Solation -- 10 percent ( mlv ).
A-l.Z Sulphuric Acid -1·1 N.
A-l.3 MetbaaoUe Pota.lam Hydroxide Solatioa - 2 N, prepared by dissolving 112 g of pure potassium hydroxide in one litre of anhydrous methanol.
A-l.4 Dilate Aeede Aehl- 30 percent ( 'Iv).A-IeS StaDdard IodiDeSolation - 0·1 N.
A-I.6 Starcb IDdieator Solatloa - freshly prepared.
A-I.7 Pheaolphtbaleia Indicator SoladOD - one percent ( mlv ), in 96 percentethyl alcohol.
A-2. APPARATUS
A-2.1 The apparatus shall beas shown in Fig. 1 and consists of a 200-mlftask fitted with a condenser with an outlet tube connected to two absorbersand a SOO-m1fi1ter ftask serving as a bubbler. The latter in turn is connected to a water suction pump. . An alternative assembly as illustrated inFig. 2 can also be used.
A-3. PROCEDURE
A-3.1 Weigh accurately about 0·3 g of the material and transfer it into the200-ml reaction flask and connect it to the two absorbers, the first containinglead acetate solution (35 mI ) to precipitate sulphides while the other asolution of potassium hydroxide in methanol (35 ml). The temperature of the second absorber lhall be maintained at 25 ± 2°C ( by immersing the absorber in a water-bath) throupqut the test. Apply suction to
