    1 Scope

This International Standard specifies requirements for watertight and oillight manholes of the current type withbolted covers, for general shipboard use other than for pressure vessels.

It specifies the dimensions for the holes in the prating and the number, size and position of the fasteners. All formsof manhole, whether of raised coaming, surface mounted or recessed cover types, shall conform to th~se principalparticulars.

The details of the manholes shall be the responsibility of the manufacturer.

NOTE Users of this International Standard should note that, whi:e observing the requirements of the standard, they shouldat the same lime ensure compl iance with such statutory requirements. rules and regulations as may be applicable to theindividual ship concerned.

    2 Normative reference

The following normative document contains provisions which, through reference in this text , constitute provisions ofthis tnternationat Standard. For a dated reference, subsequent amendments to, or revisions of, the publications donot app ly. However, parties fa agreements based on this International Standard are encouraged to investigate thepossibility 'of applying the most recent edition of the normative document indicated below. For an undatedreference, the latest edition of the normative document referred to applies. Members of ISO and lEG maintainregisters of currently valid International Standards. .

ISO 262: 1998, ISO general-purpose me/ric screw threads - Selectedsizes for screws, bolts and nuts.

3 Typical forms, nominal sizes and dimensions

All dimensions are given in milimetres.

Manholes shall be classified as type 0 or E according to nominal sizes (see Figures 1 to 3 and Table 1).

The dimensions of the manholes and the spacing of the fasteners shail be in accordance with Figures 1 to 7 andTables 1 and 2.

The nominal size 1.1 .< b 1, shall correspond to the length and breadth of the clear opening as given in Figures 1 to·3.

The thread of fasteners (nuts and bolls) shall be in accordance with ISO 262.

NOTE 1 Figure 1 shows examples of surface mounted and raised coaming forms of manholes.

The recessed form of manholes shall be similar. In order to ensure interchangeability of covers and gaskets, thedimensions of these components and the fastener coord inates shall also be as given in this International Standard.

NOTE 2 Figur,,: 1 shows welded studs as an example. Other reliable joints between the studs and plate ring are perrnisslbla,

    NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard which is identical with ISO 5894 : 1999 'Ships and manne technology -- Manholeswith bolted covers' issued by the International Orqanizauor: for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by theBureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Shipbuilding Sectional Committee and approval ofthe Transport Engineering Division Council.

The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an lndian Standard withoutdeviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention isparticularly drawn to the following:

    a) Wherever the words 'International Standmd' appear referring to this standard, they should be read as'Indian Standard'.

    b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker III the International Standard while In Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.

In this adopted standard relerenco appears to the tollowmq tnternatronal Standard for which lndran Standardalso exists. Tho corresponding Indian Standard, which IS to be substituted In Its place, IS listed below alongwith Its degree of equivalence for the edition indicated:

For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of this standard is compiled with, the finalvalue, observed or calculated expressing the result of a test or analysis, shall be rounded off in accordancewith IS?: 1960 'Rules tor rounding off numerical values (revised)'. The number of siqnitrcant places retainedin the rounded off value should be the same as that of the specified value in this standard.
