APPENDIX A

( Clauses 4.2, 4.3 and 4.4 )

METHODS OF TEST

A-t. TRUE RUNNING OF JOURNALS ANDCRANK PINS

A-t.t A surfac e plate, two V-blocks and amicrometer dial gauge shall be used for thepurpose of this test.

A-t.2 True Running of Journals - Set th eV -blocks on the surface plate. Take a crankshaft and mount it with its journals in the Vblocks. Set the micrometer dial gauge in such away that its anvil head is held in contact withthe surface of one of the journals of the crankshaft. Adjust the pointer of the dial gauge tozero position. Rotate the shaft once. Observethe maximum deflection of the needle of themicrometer dial gauge on both sides of the zeroposition. Add the two values and divide the sumby two . Repeat the test at 4 more plac es alongthe length of the same journal and at 5 placesalong the length of the second journal.

A-1.3 True Running of Crank Pins - Set theV-blocks on the surface pl ate . T ake a crankshaft and mount it with it s pins in the V- blocks.Set th e micrometer dial gauge in such a wa ythat its anvil head is held in contact withth e surface of one of the crank pins ( SllNote ). Adjust the pointer of the dial gauge tozero position. Rotate th e sha ft once. Observethe maximum deflection of the pointer of themic rometer dial g auge on both sides of the zeroposition. Add the two values and divide the sumby two. Repeat the test at one more place alongthe length of the same pin and at two places onthe second cr ank pin.

NOTE - The p oint of conta ct sho uld b~ sele cted atabout 10 mm from either end of the crank pin.

A-I.4 Report the crank shaft to be in conformitywith the requirements of 4.2 if none of thevalues as obtained in A-t.2 and A-t.3 exceed0 '025 and 0'013 mm, respectively .
