Vision: To showcase the best undergraduate education possible at a great, urban research university with the native strengths that we are justifiably proud of at Wayne State. Mission: The Irvin D. Reid Honors College provides a community of scholars within a large urban research university. Honors’ goal is informed, engaged citizenship as the basis for academic excellence in a diverse, global setting. The Honors experience is founded on four pillars—community, service, research, career. These pillars support the Honors mission and also advance the five goals of the University Strategic Plan.

Five Year Average: • New Gifts & Pledges: $353,000 • New Gifts & Pledges Donor Count: 169 • Cash & In-Kind Giving: $582,740 • Cash & In-Kind Giving Donor Count: 171 • Corporations/Foundations contributed 81 percent of monies

Recent Giving Highlights: • Support for the Office for Adult Literacy • $50,000 cash (pledge payment) from the Roberts Family Foundation • $50,000 five-year pledge to support a scholarship in Urban Scholars

Leaders Program • Mandell Berman annual Scholarship Dinner for students and donors • Seven new private scholarships established in Honors for FY12

Office for Adult Literacy • In partnership with the Detroit Free Press Reading Works initiative • Adult literacy rates in Detroit • Partnering organizations • Structure of training students, trainers, etc.

Detroit Urban Scholars • Providing 50 Gold Scholarships to Detroit students from Detroit high

schools • Created in partnership with DPS guidance counselors • Will provide a broader diversity to incoming Honors freshman class
