Term 2, Week 2, 10th May 2019

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

Welcome back to Term 2.

I hope you all had a wonderful break spending time with family and loved ones. We have planned lots of new learning and exciting changes over the course of this term. NAPLAN online is being held in Week 3 and 4 for Years 3 and 5 students, sporting competitions and some new changes to our playground.

We aim to have our basketball court and long jump track resurfaced by the end of term and a new sports shed near the Cricket nets too.

At the end of term we will be having parent/teacher/student 3-Way Conferences, with school reports going out in Week 9.

Thank you to the many families who supported our school at the Raymond Terrace March on ANZAC Day and to those who attended our school ceremony on Tuesday 30th. We certainly do have a respectful and amazing community.

A reminder to all parents/carers that although we have open lines of communication here at IPS through DoJo and SeeSaw and direct access to your child's teacher, professionalism and duty of care prevents teachers from responding during teaching and learning time. This includes parents/carers trying to talk to teachers face to face during this time as well. Please do not expect a response from your child's teacher during a school day. If you need to arrange a meeting, contact the School office and they will leave a message with your child's class teacher to call you back at a convenient, non teaching time for them. If you need to see the Assistant Principal or Principal (in that order), you will need to ring the office to make an appointment. Thank you for your under -standing in this matter.

Looking forward to a great term,

Sincerely,

Stacy Mathieson

Library News –Weeks 1-2 Term 2 2019

What’s Hot in Irri’s Library

Library Transitions

As we enter a new term, it is important to remind students of transitions to the Library. Infants are collected from the Hall COLA by our Library Monitors and are transitioned to the Library. Primary wait under the Primary COLA with Mrs Lynch. Upon ar r ival, students wash their hands thoroughly before entering. Within the Library, a range of structured activities are on offer on specific days. There are expectations on display for using the computers and for participating in activities. When playtime is over a bell is rung. Infants and Primary are both transitioned back to their COLAs by the Library Monitors.

Library Policies

As part of our school’s organisation, the Library has a range of policies in place to ensure the smooth operations and development for our students, staff and community. The policies refer to a range of items relating to borrowing, building the collection and overdues, to name a few, and form a building block that supports the evolving learning environment within Irri’s Library. Please feel free to have a browse by visiting our school’s Website under Rules and Policies.

Premier’s Reading Challenge

Congratulations to many students who have been actively reading for the Premier’s Reading Challenge. Many students are half way and if they stay on track will complete the challenge by the end of term. If you are reading at home add the books to your reading log by going to the

website and logging on :-)

https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/home.html

Overdues

Overdue notices have been distributed this week. If you have received one, please take some time to look for it at home. If you cannot locate it please come in and see or write to Mrs Lynch as some books may be in your child’s classroom.

THANK YOU!

Irri’s Library would like to say a big thank you to the Blyton, Clements & Mawby families for their generous donations of board games, puzzles and books to our library. Your items are now available to students to access and will be much loved. If you have any spare, out grown board games or puzzles at home that are appropriate for our students, we are still seeking donations. Please come and see Mrs Lynch if you have any questions.

Issue 3 brochures have been distributed.

SCREEN PRINTING: Reminder: You can leave your child/children’s Collared Sport Shirts in the office with $2 per shirt and we will have the school logo screen printed on them for you. Please ensure your child/children’s name is clearly marked on each shirt.

ANAPHYLAXIS Our school is a nut aware zone and asks all parents to NOT send food items that contain nuts to school. We have a number of students with nut allergies, with one case being severe and we want to ensure their safety can be maintained at all times in our environment. In cases where students have severe allergies, classrooms will also have specific procedures including routine hand washing after each school break. Thank you in advance for understanding the needs of all our students by not sending nut products to school in lunch boxes.
