Dear Parishioners,
I hope you are having an enjoyable summer. July is typically the slowest month in any parish, and I have been
looking forward to it. I plan to take some time with family and friends at the end of the month, while saving some
of my vacation time for the long-awaited pilgrimage to Fatima in October, to mark the 100
th
anniversary of the
miracle of the sun and the final apparition to the three visionaries. Our diocese is also going through many chang-
es right now, as priests and deacons are reassigned, and the merger process continues. Our parish has recently
said farewell to Deacon Bob Fanelli, who for some time served as both our deacon and business manager. We
thank Deacon Bob for his time of service here, especially grateful for the many souls who benefitted from his
ministry. We also thank his wife Robin for her service to our parish in music ministry and in so many other un-
seen ways. We wish them well as Deacon Bob begins a new assignment in the Catholic Community of the Holy
Spirit in Woodstown and Mullica Hill.
We also welcome at this time Father John Franco, who recently arrived in South Jersey from Columbia, and has
been living in Gibbstown while studying English. Father John will continue to live in Gibbstown while serving
here as part-time parochial vicar, in addition to Father Robert, who continues full-time ministry. I am looking for-
ward to working with Father John, as Father Robert and I are interested in growing in our knowledge of Spanish,
while Father John continues to learn English. Unity across cultural borders is a big part of what both Catholicism
and America are all about, and we hope our efforts for continued ministry to serve in both English and Spanish
will spill over into a growing unity among all of our parishioners. I would like to also express my thanks to Father
Robert for his recent successes with the trip to Hershey Park and the completion of the giant rosary. We plan to
hang it in the chapel of Our Lady, so it can continue to inspire our parishioners, especially recalling the work that
so many of you did, while taking it down occasionally for other upcoming events in Mary’s honor. Father Robert
is leading the way for our upcoming consecration to Jesus through Mary, which will culminate with special events
on the Solemnity of the Assumption.
As always, it is my desire to continue to consecrate our people and everything we do here to the Heart of Mary, as
history has shown that Mary leads us to salvation on so many levels. When Saint John Vianney, the humble par-
ish priest of Ars, took over a quiet country parish and from there re-converted the entire country of France, he al-
ways led with handing everything over to our Blessed Lady. God the Father did this when He first entrusted our
salvation to her at the Annunciation of Saint Gabriel, which ultimately led our Savior to offer His very life for us.
The Cure of Ars did the same, as he offered each of his parishioners to her, then observing so many individual
conversions and well-made confessions, in addition to a growing love for adoring Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament,
and finally seeing in his old age a larger church that was continually packed with people at prayer around the
clock. As I strive to see each of you grow in your love for Jesus in the Sacraments, I offer each of you to Mary. It
is encouraging to see ongoing heartfelt confessions, as well as a growing love for Adoration. I hope as well that
our Thursday night prayer group will continue to grow, as Jesus truly unites our hearts in prayer and fellowship,
while also learning a bit here and there about our faith. This is what Jesus intends, that through the help of Our
Lady, we become more and more His Family, here and in Heaven.

Estimados feligreses,
do esperando.
do inglés.
Padre Chuck

Small Christian Community Faith Sharing
Please note that we put the following week’s Gospel passage in this space so you can prepare all week for proclamation of
the Gospel the following Sunday. Faith Sharing helps ordinary people connect their faith with everyday life experiences.
Excerpt from the Gospel for the Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, July 23, 2017 ~ Matthew 13:24-30
The Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came
and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also
appeared….The servants asked him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull up the weeds?’ No, let both grow together until the
harvest.
Commentary: Weeds apparently resemble wheat in the early stages of growth and, entwined with wheat, make it difficult to
distinguish. As the parable states it is better to wait until harvest time and then separate the two. Since this is a parable
about the Kingdom of Heaven, there is an important lesson for us to glean from this story. The Kingdom of Heaven is here
already, planted like a seed in the hearts of those who believe. When we feed the hungry, forgive those who hurt us, act
justly, practice charity, we make the Kingdom evident. But within all of us, weeds grow. Weeds produce dissent, alienation,
anger, and brokenness. God doesn’t write us off because of these weeds, but gives us ample time to work through them so
that hopefully, by the end of our lives, we will have surrendered to the power of grace, expressed our contrition, and turned
our weeds into a bountiful field of wheat.

the week.
