The spring term is flying by!

Plans are on track for the move into the new extension at February half-term. Six classes will be moving into the lovely new building in order to make way for the refurbishment of the ICT suit, SLT room, library, Break-fast and After School Club/Nurture room. Some parents are not parking considerately and we have had concerns voiced from neighbours. Someone knocked into a brick post on a Faraday Road driveway and drove off—the resident saw someone dropping off a child and has CCTV footage.

Another parent was extremely worried about the way that someone had parked across the gate on Faraday, completely blocking that entrance to the school and was obstructing the pavement so that children and adults had difficulty walking past the vehicle—that could be your child next time! PLEASE PARK CONSIDERATELY.

Thank you for your continued support. Mrs L.A Fisher-Pink, Head Teacher

Science in the Spotlight

Over the past few weeks, Birkbeck has been visited by some science visitors. The Geobus arrived at Birkbeck school to support the Y3 and Y5 children with their earth science topics. In the morning, Year 5 were taught about space and able to be hands-on with a range of meteorites and using 3D glasses saw what the surface of Mars looks like! Many questions were asked and answered by an expert Earth scientist from the Universi-ty College of London. In the afternoon, Year 3 got hands-on with a variety of rocks and identified their differ-ent features and where they come from.

On Friday 17th January, Year 5 had another exciting visit from Scenes of Crimes Officers (SOCOs). This helped with their understanding of solving mysteries which also linked with their class mystery book, The Goldfish Boy.

On Thursday 30th January, Year 5 visited the Science Museum as part of their ‘Can you feel the force and Space’. Children took part in a forces workshop and had a fantastic time exploring the Wonderlab.

Silver Rights Respecting Award

On January 13th an assessor

visited school to see if we

had met the silver Rights

Respecting School standard.

She was taken on a learning

walk by some Year 6 pupils

and then had a number of meetings with Mrs

Hunt, parents, governors, school ambassadors

and Mrs Fisher–Pink.

We are delighted to report that Birkbeck

Primary School is now a Silver standard Rights

Respecting School and we were delighted to be

told that we are well on the way to achieving

Gold.

Many thanks to Mrs Hunt who has worked so

hard with the school community to achieve

this—well done everyone!
