49 Irish Daily Mail, Monday, January 11, 2021 DunDalk LEAHMAN can get off the mark on the flat. Initially moderate on the level, he improved when sent hurdling, attaining a rating of 118, and reverted to the flat during the summer when he finished second to a subsequent winner in a Curragh handicap. He was held when falling at Gowran when last seen in October but was a reserve non-runner twice in December, indicating that he should be ready for this assignment. Top weight Pempie was rated in the mid 70s for Andrew Balding and while she has shown some useful bits of form in Ireland and is rated 62, she was beaten from that mark latest. Storm Elza showed some encouragement on her latest start when 1.5L behind Quiet Desire in December. Storm Elza stayed on nicely and looks the type to prove competitive at this grade, having initially shown some ability as a 3yo. Quiet Desire has obvious claims but was well held on her most recent start. Zinat won here in 2017 and while she has been doing well over hurdles, is possibly best watched on her flat return. Well-bred Switch Around needs to show improvement to win while Empire Street, also by Galileo, appears capable of winning from his rating but today’s race is quite competitive. Macaban City won over CD in November but was well beaten here last month. 3.30 —CROWNE PLAZA HOTEL DUNDALK HANDICAP (45- 65) (DIV 1) €10,001 added (€6,000) 2m (14) 1 (6) 836035/ INTERMEDIA J548 (B) K Thornton 6-10-2........ FAVOURITES: – – – – – – – – 1 – (W 9-2). AGES: – – – – – – – – 5 – NIGHTLY WAILING is fancied to land his third race over CD. He clearly stays very well, comes here fit and well and with the flat handicapper recently dropping all horses 2lbs due to inflationary reasons, he is now just 1lb higher than when winning in November. Falak’s rating has fallen dramatically in recent months and he stayed on nicely when last seen in November. Bottom weight Paula’s Prayer has her chance, having shown progression over hurdles in recent months. Her flat form is just ordinary but she may possibly have strengthened up in recent months and is interesting reverting to the flat from the usual basement rating. Tham Luang is winless from 18 starts and while well beaten here in December (his rider reported he hung right), has claims on previous form. Sharjah (Ire) has won 15 races and while he had been in good form earlier in the year, was well held on his latest start in December. Take A Turn was eased when beaten on his latest start but has some chance on previous best form. 4.00 —CROWNE PLAZA HOTEL DUNDALK HANDICAP (45- 65) (DIV 2) €10,001 added (€6,000) 2m (13) 1 (10) 4499/08- IRISH ART 47 (P) G Elliott 5-10-2.....................Sam Ewing (7) 2 (5) 29062-4 BELGOPRINCE 3 (T) A J Martin 4-10-1................. FAVOURITES & 2020: See Div 1. BELGOPRINCE might prove best in an ordinary contest. A winner in his native France in February 2020, he showed better form, following four hur- dle runs, in recent months and while he steps up in trip today, he has been placed over 2m1f over hurdles and the booking of Colin Keane is notable. Important Message has won three times and while he has yet to win in eight all-weather starts, ran a solid race when third over CD in November and should go well today. Irish Art’s hurdle form has been uninspiring but he wasn’t beaten too far here 47 days ago and could get involved in first- time cheek-pieces. Trump Card is a four-time winner but hasn’t won since March 2019, while Bare With Me is mildly interesting stepping up in trip for the first time on debut for new connections. Sleepy Head hasn’t won since May 2019, but this four-time winner has claims on her best form. 2.30 —IRISHINJUREDJOCKEYS.COM HANDICAP (45-65) (DIV 1) €10,001 added (€6,000) 1m 4f (17) 1 (1) 43/59L9- KALANOURA 26 G Cromwell 5-10-2 ..................Gary Carroll 2 (11) 497/780- MALBAS 26 (T) (D) Denis Hogan 5-10-2 .....J M Sheridan (5) 3 (9) 1635LL- LADY DE VESCI 38 (C&DC3) M Halford 8-10-0 A Farragher (7) 4 (8) 00L- DUSTY WINDS 173 Mark Fahey 6-9-12 .... KALANOURA is a hopeful pick to return to form and gain a maiden win. An Aga Khan-well bred type, she showed some useful form for previous trainer Michael Halford and while she has been slowly away on her most recent starts for her current connections, she did stay on to some effect in a better CD race here in December. Today’s race is a very winnable event and she could be the one to beat if she breaks smartly from stall 1. Stay With Me is also a maiden after 11 runs but has been showing up well over CD in recent times and should get involved. Griffyndor’s rating has fallen to a low mark and he wasn’t beaten too far when last sighted in October. Malbas, soundly enough beaten by the selection in December, runs in a first-time tongue-tie today and is a previous winner at today’s trip. 3.00 —IRISHINJUREDJOCKEYS.COM HANDICAP (45-65) (DIV 2) €10,001 added (€6,000) 1m 4f (17) 1 (3) 225005- PEMPIE 31 (T) P J F Murphy 5-10-2 ......................C D Hayes 2 (4) 063L60- CHARACTERISTIC 47 Liam G O’brien 5-10-1...Mark Enright 3 (9) L9707- REFLECTIONIST 26 (BT) James McAuley 4-10-1 J M Sheridan (5) 4 (17) 0/4869- STRIP LIGHT 31 A McGuinness 4-10-0 ..................G M Ryan 5 (15) 200848- MARICRUZ 61 (HT) (D) J McConnell 6-9-13 Siobhan Rutledge (7) 6 (16) 08/8LL4- STORM ELZA 40 Barry J Fitzgerald 5-9-12 ...L T McAteer (5) 7 (2) 74/40L0- SWITCH AROUND 49 (P) D K Weld 5-9-12........... A 22-race maiden who has fin- ished second no less than 10 times, she was second on her only previ- ous run at today’s venue, in May 2019 when her rider reported she didn’t handle the surface. However she has since proven herself a consistent, if frustrating, performer and comes here proven over this trip under a good 5lbs claimer in an ordinary maiden. Abeona showed form for Ger Lyons last year and while she has enough ability to win a maiden at this time of year, she drops to 6f for the first time today which is a concern. Woodrow has shown useful form in handicaps recently and should get involved at the business end while 75-rated Upstate New York has claims on best form despite a disappointing debut for new connections here three days ago. Lansing, running in a first-time visor, has shown some form in handicaps and can place, while Declan McDonogh is a positive booking for newcomer Brother In Law who is a half-brother to two winners and hails from a capable yard. 5.00 —FOLLOW US ON TWITTER AT DUNDALKSTADIUM MAIDEN (3-Y-O) €11,000 added (€6,600) 7f (15) 1 (2) 0-0 BEN SIEGEL 3 N Meade 9-7 .................................. Star Harbour is a very nota- ble newcomer having cost E400,000 as a yearling and being a half- brother to two smart winners. He debuts at a slightly unusual time of year for such a well-bred colt but could well win on debut. Stablemate Thrumps Dream, by Dark Angel, is another interesting newcomer being a E55,000 yearling purchase and a half-sister to four winners. Harbanaker is an interesting runner on his return following a break. He has shown useful form in two runs here last year and having also shown up well in two turf handicaps in June and July (when he met some interference in Naas), should go well despite the lack of a recent outing. Ampeson was well beaten on his last start at the Curragh in June but is interesting at this level having placed in a 2019 Premier Nursery and today’s rider takes off 5lbs. Five-time winner Secret Wizard hasn’t won since March 2019 but now reverts to a mile (which he has won four races over) for the first time since April 2019 and could go well under a good 5lbs claimer. 6.00 —JOIN US ON INSTAGRAM AT DUNDALK_STADIUM H’CAP (45-65) (DIV 2) €10,001 (€6,000) 1m (17) 1 (13) 6537- RED BALL OF FIRE 40 E Lynam 4-10-2 ........Sam Ewing (7) 2 (1) 5430- DANDE 130 (H) Fergal Birrane 4-9-11 .............. DunDalk LEAHMAN can get off the mark on the flat.

NIGHTLY WAILING is fancied to land his third race over CD.

FAVOURITES & 2020: See Div 1.BELGOPRINCE might prove best in an ordinary contest. A winner in his native France in February 2020, he showed better form, following four hur-dle runs, in recent months and while he steps up in trip today, he has been placed over 2m1f over hurdles and the booking of Colin Keane is notable. Important Message has won three times and while he has yet to win in eight all-weather starts, ran a solid race when third over CD in November and should go well today. Irish Art’s hurdle form has been uninspiring but he wasn’t beaten too far here 47 days ago and could get involved in first-time cheek-pieces. Trump Card is a four-time winner but hasn’t won since March 2019, while Bare With Me is mildly interesting stepping up in trip for the first time on debut for new connections. Sleepy Head hasn’t won since May 2019, but this four-time winner has claims on her best form.

    (6) 13 ran.KALANOURA is a hopeful pick to return to form and gain a maiden win.

GLOW WORM might finally get her day. A 22-race maiden who has fin-ished second no less than 10 times, she was second on her only previ-ous run at today’s venue, in May 2019 when her rider reported she didn’t handle the surface.

Race conditions suit VISUALISATION ideally and he has been found a nice opportunity, despite having a wide draw. A well-bred type, he ran a promising race on debut over course and distance in November and should be able to win a race of this type. Star Harbour is a very nota-ble newcomer having cost E400,000 as a yearling and being a half-brother to two smart winners. He debuts at a slightly unusual time of year for such a well-bred colt but could well win on debut. Stablemate Thrumps Dream, by Dark Angel, is another interesting newcomer being a E55,000 yearling purchase and a half-sister to four winners. Bright Glory, a E36,000 yearling purchase, makes some appeal on pedigree and is another interesting newcomer.

drawn (11) 14 ran.JACKMEL has done well since returning from a long layoff last July and while well beaten on his latest start when racing too keenly over 1m2f, this return to a mile should play to his strengths.

    (12) 14 ran.RED BALL OF FIRE fits into today’s race conditions nicely and has strong claims. She has shown some useful bits of form in maidens and while beaten 7L on handicap debut here 40 days ago, she did stay on quite nicely in the closing stages and runs off 2lb lower now. Loughan-lea Lass is winless from 13 starts but has run some solid races in defeat and is ridden by a 5lbs claimer over her best trip.
