Strait Crossing Hotel

The project arises from the search for an architecture capable of a re identifying a new landscape as a system of organisation and linkage between the city and the port.

The whole piece was thought of as a landscape artefact whose volume changes are imperceptible outside, but whose interior is done in a human scale to promote interaction within.

The overall aim is a subtle disengagement of the physical presence of the architecture from its primary purpose, by bringing forth the interest that it produces.

In this way, the building will be perceived as a la large container that remains waiting, seemingly immobile, on the edge of the sea.

A stop along the way. A stop on the Camino de Santiago.People, so many people together, whose “tangents”organise different spaces, where pilgrims can be part

of these spaces and transform them using the movement of the panels according to theirneeds, and them continue on their pilgrimage, leaving their imprint marked not as the found it, but as

they left it.

The project is conceived from the extrusion of a section that are deformed along the entire linear element. This allows us to create different spatial situations as well as to absorb the whole program’s resources.

It is located on the highway that connects Madrid with France, and understanding that the building will be observed from moving cars, a continuos metal mesh is chosen for an envelope, giving it a sense of uniformi-

ty that be comes more detailed as one approaches it.

An new development has been propose from a mesh of public spaces and uses that, through their adaptation by means of flor bands, will overlap each other thus creating “wildcard” situations

from which the most optimal may be chosen. These public spaces will encourage and manage the build-ability around them, trying to regenerate the area

of Sestao which is currently a depressed area as a result of a succession of bad planning decisions.

Different connections are proposed between Sestao and Barakaldo, which will be sized to be understood as extensions between both districts. Equipped with playgrounds, viewpoints and other

resources, these connections seek to eliminate the current physical, social and economic barriers that result from poor access.
