A chairdeDebate and discussions are an integral part ofFéile an Phobail and that is entirely in keepingwith the people who had the vision toestablish a community festival back in 1998. StMary’s University College has been associatedwith the Féile since 1992 and our respectiveinterests coalesce around the significance thateach body attaches to “learning forcontinuous improvement”. We both believe inthe power of education. We understand thatdebate and discussions help to improve ourcollective understanding of the cultural, economic, political and social context in whichwe find ourselves – a context that is constantlychanging.

St Mary’s is proud to be so deeply associatedwith Ireland’s biggest community arts festivaland summer school, which welcomesthousands to the city of Belfast each year.Ourselves and Féile are involved in a truepartnership where collaborative action andlearning as well as mutual respect characterizethe relationship we enjoy.

The College has been a higher educationinstitution located on the Falls Road since1900 and our educational tradition continuesin an innovative way through the Féile. As PaulMaskey MP said at the launch of this year’sfestival, “it is our window to the internationalworld”.

Creidimid go gcumasaíonn foghlaimsíorfheabhsú.
