IRBNet for IACUC The Electronic Platform for
Submission and Processing of Animals Study Documents
Please see the attached information regarding the submission of your protocol via “IRBNet for IACUC.”
NOTE: If you are preparing a new protocol submission, or a de novo triennial renewal, you should consult with the Attending Veterinarian (AV) during protocol development (prior to IRBNet submission). You must consult with the AV in planning of experimental procedures categorized as USDA Pain/Distress “D” and “E.”

Definitions of Available Actions for your Project
= all packages created by a PI. = starting point for project actions after downloading forms.
= shows summary information on a project. = takes you back to your project prior to submission. = allows you to share project with necessary approvers. = allows for electronic signature prior to submission. = must submit for the package to be electronically entered into the system. = can only be used prior to submission of the package. = to send Outlook emails to shared individuals regarding package. = summary of actions on a given project.

• To access the forms needed to create your new project package, click on “Forms and Templates.” • You will download the forms to your computer and fill out as applicable. • The forms are the same as those that are available on the Institutional Animal Care and Use Program (IACUP) website.

• To access the IACUC forms, you will need to select “IACUC – Documents for Researchers” from the dropdown menu. • The next screen shot shows the forms that should appear for use in submitting your project package.

• Click on the blue title of the form that you need to complete. • You will download the forms, save to your computer, and fill out as applicable.

Once you have completed your document(s), you will upload it to IRBNet. Log back into IRBNet. Click on “Create New Project.”
NOTE: A new project = protocol. A new package = an action (such as an amendment, annual progress report, or personnel amendment) within the same project.

Complete required fields. Please ensure that the Principal Investigators name is correct. Click “Continue.”
For an existing study, we recommend that you include the original protocol # in the title of the project, e.g., A-XXXXXX-X: Vertebrate Survey . . . For new a new study, proceed the title with IACUC: Vertebrate . . .

Select the type of document from the first dropdown menu. Type a description of the document. Upload your document using the browse and attach functions.
Indicate if this is an initial or a revised submission and With the date YYYY.MM.DD in format, e.g., “2012.02.14 Initial Protocol Submission,” and “2012.02.20 Revised Initial Protocol Submission.”
Again, for an existing study, we recommend that you include the original protocol # in the title of the document, e.g., 2012.02.14.Initial Protocol Submission.A-XXXXXX-X

Note: In the “Your Comments:” box, you can add any necessary administrative comment, for example, on a new protocol, “I have incorporated changes as recommended by the AV during primary veterinary review,” or “ I have incorporated the modifications/clarification required to secure approval.”
