Ir uns not been my good fortune often to visit BritishColumbia. But the eloquence of my friends here has taught mea good deal about your province. One comes easily to admire it.It is a wonder land; mountains and the sea; rivers, lakes andforests; mines and farm land : each with its store of wealth :

all yours and ali intended to give you unassailable security.

I have known your people, always. I knew them in theGreat War. And it seems to me important in these times,when faith is perilously strained, that you should realize yourdemonstrated power. Behold it in the record of your soldiers,a generation back. It is a great record. What your countrymendid in those days, you can do now, if now you match theirresolution by your own.

Indeed, you can do things they never could have done.What would have been a miracle a few years back, today isjust routine. For by the help of science, you, with your stronghands, can take our natural wealth and turn it into prosperitysuch as the world has never known.

Yet you are not prosperous. Want and unemployment areyour masters. The bread line, often, is the line of your soleendeavour.

Elsewhere in Canada, also, want and unemployment rule.Potential wealth and actual poverty provide a hateful paradox.

Have you visited the prairies? Have you seen our greatlakes, the forests of the east, the rich farm lands, the fabulous

years. Make a fresh start.. You see what inaction has doneto us. Conclude this present stage of lambJike acquiescence.Canadians were born a dauntless people. Be bold !

You made the law. You are its champions. Within thejust limits of the law, be strong. Safeguard your institutions,passionately.

Have clear in mind what our objective is. Lay downthe means by which we can attain it. Then go forward withoutcompromise. Be bold !

That is the spirit of the New Democracy.

Back it with all your might. For it is you, the averagecitizen, out to get your rights : security with freedom. Theseyou will attain by the processes of capitalism redesigned toserve in this new era rvhich centuries of struggle have broughtto us so that the people of today might know contentment.

Make up your-minds to get your rights. There is no powerthat can stop you, then. If you have resolution, you willhave security.

That is the truth.

If I can make you believe that truth, .I will be the veryhumble instrument of a great achievement.
