“We do today what they won’t, so tomorrow we accomplish what they can’t.” – Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson
Leadership doesn’t always come naturally, but as in anything,
practice makes perfect! Remember, a great manager
is a great leader.
01LEAD BY EXAMPLE
A leader should set an example to their team and be a role model that others want to follow. This means you should behave in a way that you’d like your team to behave. Set high standards… and stick to them.
02Everybody has their strengths and weaknesses, it’s part of what makes us human. Make sure you keep this in mind when assigning roles to your team.Make sure you keep things positive – praise your team’s successes and make sure to offer support when things don’t go quite so well.
STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES
02Regular one-to-one feedback sessions, as well as a consistently open dialogue, are great ways to keep up to speed with how your team is getting on.
STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES
03Everyone wants to be liked, there’s nothing wrong with that. However, there are times when a leader must make hard decisions that are unpopular.
BE A LEADER, NOT A FRIEND
03While it’s great to have a good relationship with your team members, make sure this doesn’t get in the way of you doing what your role requires. Don’t be afraid to come off as the bad guy at times… If your team respects you, they’ll trust in your actions and know you’re doing what’s best.
BE A LEADER, NOT A FRIEND
03Make yourself approachable in the workplace, your team need to know that they can trust you as much as you need to know that you can trust them. However, be professional! Keep your private life private and know where to draw the line.
BE A LEADER, NOT A FRIEND
04Understanding your team and what drives them personally is a great way of finding incentives and motivators that your team will respond to.Someone’s personal aspirations often dictate what motivates them; be it family, social life, experience, career progression or money – everyone is driven by different goals.
INVEST IN YOUR PEOPLE
04Make sure you get to know your team individually and speak with them about the direction they want to go in – they may not always be upfront about it but your next specialists, team leaders and project managers might be right in front of your eyes.
INVEST IN YOUR PEOPLE
05Great leaders understand that their success depends on the individual and collaborative success of their team members. This is why it is vital for a leader to be mindful of every individual; their successes, their challenges and the support they require to. Make sure you enable them to achieve their goals.
YOUR SUCCESS DEPENDS ON THEIRS
05Hold regular informal catch-ups with your team and individuals. Meetings shouldn’t take long but help the whole team to work towards a common goal, share ideas and group problem solve.
YOUR SUCCESS DEPENDS ON THEIRS
