IPRF) Religious Education Registration Sign Up Now! Religious Education classes are filling up for some grades at certain times. Please register soon so that we can recruit catechists, gather materials, and finalize class lists. A printable registration form can be found on our website, www.inter-parish.org, or at our office, on the second floor of St. Joseph Parish Center (Holly Hall entrance). Call the IPRF (Religious Education) Office if you have questions, 738-7413, or email [email protected].

Fr. Jim’s Jottings The Cross is BACK!!! Above the Solanus Garden entrance you will now see a cement cross. Years ago the limestone statue of St Joseph that is in the front of our church used to sit where the cross is. A long time ago the statue was taken down and put where it is now. This past year someone saw the

cross in a rummage sale and thought it would be a perfect fit on the Solanus Garden entrance. Do you agree? By the way, have you visited the Solanus Garden this summer? Stop in after Mass. The flowers are beautiful…thanks to Mary Schulz and her gardeners. And, offer a prayer at the statue of Fr Solanus in thanksgiving for the many blessings God has given us.

Non-Raffle Raffle Every parish family should have received a letter regarding our annual “Non-Raffle Raffle”. This raffle began a number of years ago to help the parish with its summer bills. It has been successful each year. So far in 2017, parishioners have donated $16,835.23! We hope that in the next couple of weeks you will make an offering towards this appeal. There is a return envelope in the letter that can be used to place your gift into the collection basket or send to the Parish Office. If you did not receive a letter and would like to contribute check in the rack on the radiator in the back of church. Thank you for your generosity to St Joe’s during these summer months.

SCRIP UPDATE SCRIP is a program where you purchase gift cards for your own use and then the SCRIP program gives Sr. Joe’s a check for a percentage of the amount purchased. St. Joe’s received $260.61 from the purchases in June. Can you imagine what St. Joe’s would receive back if everyone in the parish used SCRIP? We would receive a great amount of cash for the budget! Help us by purchasing your Gift Cards on one of the following weekends: August 5/6 and 19/20. These dates allow you to purchase SCRIP for birthdays, weddings, everyday needs and Christmas! Thanks for using SCRIP.

What if we don’t have what you want in the SCRIP Box or you forgot to purchase SCRIP on our selling weekend and you need the card right now? You can buy SCRIP at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Schools and give the credit to your parish. We would be happy to tell you more about how you can financially help St. Joseph Parish through the Xavier Catholic Schools SCRIP Program. Come visit our SCRIP Office attached to the Middle School gym at 101 E. Northland Ave. The office is open The Xavier Scrip Office is open from 7:30 am until 1:30 pm Monday to Thursday (summer hours)

WWDWWD (Why We Do What We Do) Is it true that Fr Solanus Casey was not allowed to hear confessions or preach sermons?

Believe it or not, that is true. Because of some language barriers and his average intelligence, his superiors didn’t think he had the ability to preach doctrinal sermons or hear confessions. But he was ordained with those restrictions. It was probably humbling for Solanus, but he accepted it for love of God. When you consider his life, he ended up being an impressive preacher in how he listened and counseled thousands. Even though he could not offer the prayer of forgiveness of the sacrament, he did reassure thousands of God’s mercy and

love. Solanus is another example of how God often chooses the weak and the humble to do His divine work of healing and forgiving!

FALL FESTIVAL is COMING! Before we know it, September 16/17 will be here. That’s 6 weeks away. We are asking parishioners to begin thinking about helping make the Festival profitable with donations. Could you make some items that we could raffle off? We have so many talented parishioners. Would you be willing to share some of the results of your labors? Thank You!

We Need Your Help! CRAFTS: Do you have any new projects you would be willing to donate?

WOODWORKING PROJECTS: We love those fabulous woodworking projects, keep them coming in!

JAMS, JELLIES, PICKLES: any items you can that you would be interested in donating?

PUMPKIN TREE ITEMS: DUE August 14

Watch for LEAVES to be on the tree with food items.

VOLUNTEERS: Check out the sign-up sheets for selling dinner tickets or basket raffle tickets. The sheets are on

the table in the back of church.

GARDENERS: Will you have an abundance of vegies that you could donate for our Plant/Produce Sale during the Fall Festival?

BAKERS: Start looking for your favorite recipes. WE are especially looking for pies (non-cream, they have a tendency to melt in the sun) for the Dinner on Saturday. Let us know if you can bring pies for our dinner. We need to make sure that we have enough.

Looking forward to another super Fall Festival!

ANNOUNCEMENTS 1) If you haven’t already donated to our Non Raffle

Raffle, please do so soon. Extra envelopes and letters in the back of church.

2) Pumpkins are on the Pumpkin Tree...take one or two and bring in your donations by August 14.
