WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT?

Apple is being threatened with a lawsuit for not telling iPhone users about the memory required by its operating system and its subsequent downloadable updates.

SHRINKING STORAGEThe complaint concerns iOS 8 and the amount of memory it reserves for itself once it has been installed on iPods, iPhones and iPads.

Apple customers are complaining that because the operating system takes up so much space, users are actually purchasing far less memory for their own data than advertised.

The complaint has been filed in California by residents Paul Orshan and Christopher Endara who claim that iOS 8 and preinstalled apps can occupy up to 23.1% of the memory available on some Apple devices.

WHAT HAS APPLE SAID?As of yet, Apple have not responded to the lawsuit claims.

The latest update to the iOS 8 operating system was available in September but Apple was forced to withdraw and reissue it because the first version caused many problems across iPhone handsets.

This isn’t the first lawsuit Apple has been involved in over the years: Apple and Samsung have accused each other about infringing patents in intellectual property battles around the world.
