IP Strategy in a Startup

The ownership and protection of technology, trademarks and other intellectual property is very important for today's start-ups to establish and preserve their value. However, many founders are not aware of the importance, or if they are aware, are not informed on the proper steps to establish clear ownership of their ideas, information, trademarks and logos and how to enforce their rights, so they often inadvertently leave their IP unprotected. This oversight leaves them at risk for competition and jeopardizes future funding, partnerships and opportunities to be acquired.

IP Strategy and Patent Reform – Protecting Your IP in a Global Market

IP strategy is an important tool for creating value and reflects a coordinated effort to develop, manage and use IP to accomplish the Company’s goals. While the importance of IP strategy is recognized by many companies, it is very difficult to identify a sustainable model to form or implement an IP strategy. An IP strategy is heavily influenced by the company’s product development strategy and technology choices to support product development. This session will explore some general approaches to patent strategy and discuss what impact (if any) current patent reform initiatives will have on your IP strategy.

Generating IP! But There Is Nothing New, Innovative, Or Patentable In Our Project...

Generating patent(s) is an art and a science. The science is in knowing what is patentable, what generates IP and the art is to know how to generate IP, to maximize your profits and return.

One of the most common questions asked during project review is: whether it is new, innovative, or patentability. These are few of the touch stones though which mining a project is tested to generate IP. But often the answer we hear from our engineering team is: “there is nothing new, innovative, or patentable in our project”.

During this session we will understand these questions, to determine what is the best way for patent harvesting that will benefit the inventor, the company, by maximizing the IP growth.

Few of the questions to consider while mining the project are:

1. What should we do to generate patents?

2. What are the questions we need to ask when mining a project?

3. When should we start mining the project to generate patents? These are few of the questions that will help us prepare for invention harvesting.
