Our Month in Review What a month! We said a sweet goodbye to a wonderful servant from the Lord and to this church, Elizabeth Fowlkes, we welcomed new friends (rising Kindergarten) up to the 2 nd floor and promoted everyone to his or her new Sunday School class. We enthusiastically started “That Thing” up again on Wednesday nights in the month of August! At “That Thing” we talked about missions, both locally and globally, emphasizing the importance of sharing God’s redemptive story with others. We also showed practical application of what missions could look like in their lives through the Forrest Spence Fund. The last two weeks we focused on global missions. We invited Kevin Wukasch, Rachel’s brother, to talk about his summer ministering to young adults in Turkey for two months, and we had the privilege of hearing from our own Pastor Mike Malone about what the Lord is doing in Tanzania. It was such an encouraging month hearing the Lord’s heart for the world through local and global missions! I P C K I D S - S E P T E M B E R 2 0 1 6 IPC Children’s Ministry

Our Month in Review What a month! We said a sweet goodbye to a wonderful

servant from the Lord and to this church, Elizabeth Fowlkes, we welcomed new friends (rising Kindergarten) up to the 2nd floor and promoted everyone to his or her new Sunday School class.

Welcome Back Lucy Green!!!

2

Fun follows Lucy around! Even though she is very careful, sometimes bad things just happen to her: she broke her finger this summer playing kickball at Camp Palmer, the pontoon she was riding was swamped by a big wave at Pickwick, and she even went off a high rope swing but forgot to hold on to the rope (ouch!). Capable. Reliable. Fun. Responsible. Loving. Fun. Devoted. Committed. And did we mention fun? These are just a few of the words that come to mind when describing Lucy. We can’t wait for Lucy to get started in September, and there’s no telling what she will call in when she gets here! - Lisa Turner (Women’s Ministry Director at IPC)

This is a true story. One year, on the IPC high school ski trip, the bus got stuck in Kansas because of a snowstorm. The only way out was for a mechanic to put chains on the tires of the bus, but no mechanic was around, and it would be days before someone could get there. In an attempt to cheer the group up, Lucy Wittichen Green stood up, raised her arms and called the hogs, which is a cheer done at the University of Arkansas. It goes like this: Wooooooooo. Pig. Sooie! Wooooooooo. Pig. Sooie! Wooooooooo. Pig. Sooie! Razorbacks! Everyone in the IPC group was embarrassed…until this man stood up and started calling the hogs with her...and he was a mechanic!! He put the chains on the bus tires, and we were back on our way...with the mechanic now on the bus with us. Lucy is no stranger to IPC, and we are excited to have her return as the Interim Children’s Director. She was on the church staff from 1987-1998 where she worked in the children’s and youth ministries, and helped launch the College & Career Bible study. She is married to Tom, and they have three daughters at Ole Miss: Mary Henley, Mallory and Anna Grace.

Ways to Serve!

make cards for members who are homebound, those who have gone through bereavements, or just had a baby, we sharpen pencils in the sanctuary, and participate in special projects like Operation Christmas Child and Forrest Spence Fund. Please consider sharing an hour with us either every week for a semester or every other week for a year. Please contact Rachel Wukasch if you are interested.*

Covenanters’ Corner Check out this family devotional book, One Year of Dinner Table Devotions and Discussion Starters: 365 Opportunities to Grow Closer to God as a Family by Nancy Guthrie. Getting the kids to turn off the TV and video games is challenging enough—let alone gathering as a family to read and discuss the Bible! One Year of Dinner Table Devotions & Discussion Starters helps families start where they are already gathered together on a daily basis—around the dinner table. As the meal comes to a close, family members can take turns turning to the dinner-table devotion for that day, designed to be done together as a family in 10 to 15 minutes. The result is a meaningful daily discussion in which every family member can participate, drawing the whole family closer to God and each other.
