The flexibility and efficiency of TCP/IP protocol have led to its widespread acceptance for audio distribution for intercom, public addressing, voice alarm and mass notification.

ATEÏS introduces a complete range of IP-based products for security and communication with the benefits of easy installation, low cost of operation, and future expansion.

Why adopt TCP/IP systems for audio distribution?

TCP/IP is an established industry standard for communication, and the technology has increasingly accommodated a wide range of devices and protocols.

Instant high speed communication is possible over a scalable network supporting a range of equipment, including input and output devices, processors, and audio-visual devices.

Conventional equipments that are not compatible with IP can be linked to an IP network via interface modules. This expands the possibilities of networking devices such as microphones, processors, loudspeakers, music sources–CD players, audio jacks for MP3 players, AM/FM tuners, etc.

Devices from different vendors can be networked for communication on a common platform. Analog devices can be interfaced with the IP network by using TCP/IP-analog converters.

IP-based systems can be set up easily on the exiting IP framework in a building and subsequently expanded as required.

IP-based Security Intercom System with Fault Monitoring feature for Devices

TERRACOM@NET is an IP-based security intercom system that does not require centralized equipment or matrix, the network itself being the switching matrix.

The audio distribution system employs Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) for point-to-point and point-to-multipoint communication. TERRACOM@NET is ideal for intercom systems in buildings and complexes that require fault monitoring and security features for establishing reliable communication between two zones and broadcasting messages to all zones.

For small to medium installations, the TERRACOM@NET network can be shared with third-party TCP/IP applications without the need for a dedicated network. For bigger installations, a dedicated TCP/IP network or VLAN may be preferable. Furthermore, a message server can be added to the system when required.

TERRACOM@NET

The paging microphones, desktop consoles, and wall-mount intercom stations can be directly connected to the IP network. Loudspeakers and analogue telephone handsets can be added to the network by using TCP/IP-analogue interface devices.

The flush- or surface-mount intercom stations with vandal-proof housing are designed to withstand tough environmental conditions.

For small to medium systems, the TerraCom@Net network can be shared with third-party TCP/IP applications without the need for a dedicated network. For bigger installations, a dedicated TCP/IP network or VLAN may be preferable. Furthermore a message server can be added to the system when required.

AUDIO TRANSMISSION AND COMMUNICATION

In a TERRACOM@NET network, IP-based paging microphones and intercom stations form the communication system. In office buildings, transportation hubs, building complexes, etc, staff can communicate with each other via paging microphones on the LAN or WAN. The intercom system can be integrated with analog or IP-based telephone networks, that is, the paging microphone stations can communicate with telephone handsets and vice versa.

The system supports simultaneous broadcast of Speex and MP3 compressed audio data. Speex allows low latency and high audio quality for voice messages, and MP3 guarantees high audio quality for music response.

The VOX@NET software application on a dedicated server allows expansion of the TERRACOM@NET intercom system into an IP-based audio distribution system for public address and voice alarm, mass notification, and background music. Combination of the two systems provides a comprehensive graphical user interface and access to both intercom and paging features from the same call stations.

The VOX@NET server enables efficient management of a large number of zones in a building, with centralized control over ad-dressing of devices and selection (activation and deactivation) of speaker zones.

The server provides the network with exceptional resources for storage and routing of message and music. Pre-recorded messages and music can be stored and broadcasted either in the MP3 or Speex format. The network allows simultaneous transmission of up to 50 message/music files.

This system provides a full duplex audio and data communication network that is used as infrastructure carrier for an EN 60849 compliant Voice-Alarm and Public Address system. To comply with the EN 60849, the individual alarm components need to be certified and the carrier network has to provide stability and redundancy.

The way to achieve this is to use IP-media convertors that are linked into a private IP-network of V-LAN. An overall software ap-plication supervises the components in the network and arranges the data streaming and directions.

This application software is called: Vox@Net.

Vox@Net is an audio distribution system for public address and voice evacuation applications which rest on an Ethernet/IP networking platform. The network supports paging, broadcasting of pre-recorded messages, and routing of music for a central server and/or operator unit.

The Vox@Net software which can be installed on multiple

computers at a time is compatible with paging microphone

consoles, audio processors and amplifiers with associated

speaker networks, and external audio sources connected to

the network via IP interface devices. On the network, at least

one computer must act as the Vox@Net server providing

storage for pre-recorded messages and music libraries.

The server PC is also used for system configuration settings

and logging data. Because of the vital role of the server on

the Vox@Net system, a backup server must be set up for

redundancy purposes.

In an IP-based PAVA configuration, several IDA/DIVA audio

matrixes can be connected on the Vox@Net network. The

matrixes are interfaced with the server via RS232 serial

protocol.

I P - b a s e d Background Music System

APPLICATIONS

The set-up for background music involves a dedicated, centralized server (the VOX@NET server) along with music sources such as CD players and a graphical user interface to control and monitor the network. The music server is connected to the local area network via a TCP/IP-analog interface.

Analog audio signals are encoded and compressed into the MP3 or Speex formats and transmitted via the IP network. At various zones connected to the IP network, the signals are decoded, amplified and then played as background music on local speakers.

Separate audio jacks allow inputs from audio sources such as MP3 and CD players. Programmable universal remote controllers (URCs) installed at various zones can be used to adjust the volume of the background music in the respective zones.

URC200

The URC200 is an programmable remote controller (TCP/IP) for the LAPG2 & ECS DSP audio matrix System and the IP-media streamers with VOX-NET IP Media software.

The URC200 is powered over IP and easy to integrate with audio distribution systems.

The full color display is easy to read and has a low-power consumption to allow for long lines and multiple devices into one system.

• Channel selection and volume control• Power on Ethernet• Color LCD screen• Simple programming with two buttons• Event log• Standby mode

APPLICATIONSIP-based Visual Evacuation System

Digital signage can be integrated with the VOX@NET network to provide visual instructions for evacuation. Messages can be displayed on LCD or LED screens that double as media for advertisements and commercial videos.

LCD and LED screens can be linked to the IP network by using TCP/IP-analog interface devices.

In emergency situations, occupants in a building can be alert-ed using voice messages and instructions displayed on digital screens, which is useful to people with hearing impairments.

Similar to how voice messages can be transmitted to differ-ent zones via loudspeakers, the evacuation process can be enhanced with the inclusion of informative signage displays installed in various sections of a building to show evacua-tion paths, exits, and detailed maps to guide the occupants to safety.

Professional Digital Signage

The VEVS100 hyper media player is a compact and robust module that can schedule, combine, update, animate, stream and display video, audio, vector graphics, pictures and text on digital displays.

The media player does not require a proprietary server, and integration is based on open formats and protocols. Easy pro-gramming and time synchronization features enable set up of video walls and interactive screens (horizontal and vertical displays) of any size.
