THE CAST

Elizabeth Breed (Candy)is an Iowa City Native and a recent graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan University. She was a part of Lysistrata, Marat Sade, Waiting for Godot and her original play Enocolate. She hopes to pursue and MFA in playwriting.

Christopher Carpenter (Eddie Flagrante) was born in a log cabin in the early 1800s and made his living splitting rails until the fateful day he joined a passing circus troupe. After a particularly traumatic incident during a sword swallowing act he re-tired from the circus and settled in the small frontier community of Coralville where enjoys training his dog, Jeely Kly, to violate other people's personal space. He also appears in plays and musicals with local theater groups. At ICCT he was last seen in Fiddler OnThe Roof. He would like to thank the late, great Bill Gerlits for teaching him

that the secret to acting is all in the eyebrows .

Ninah Fominyen (Delilah Strict) is thrilled to be a part of Zombie Prom for her debut musical theatre performance. Over the last 15 years she has relegated her perfor-mances to karaoke at various establishments and cruise ships. For more than a decade, Ninah has been a GEICO insurance agent and has appeared in three of their produc-tions videos. She experienced one very brief moment of infamy with a spot American Idol appearance and has done recent filming for a Turbo Jam infomercial. In high school, she performed in the choir and color guard. She’s been told her “Miss Strict” isn't really a stretch. She'd like you to be the judge.

Andrew Fortman (Joey) is excited to be a part of the cast of Zombie Prom. He has been a member of several other community theatre production including Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, High School Musical, Seussical the Musical and Music Man. With being the youngest member in the cast, he is also the tamest...? Anyway, thanks to this show his face is cold all the time and will attempt to grow back his beard with gusto.

Rachel Fortman (Ramona Merengue) This is Rachel’s first show with ICCT. Her last musical performance was in Les Miserables (she was the factory girl who kicked Fantine’s sorry sneaky butt). Currently, she can be seen in the show Life in Iowa City, where she plays a poor college student deciding whether to major in nursing or pur-sue her EMT certification. In her free time, Rachel loves to read everything she can get her hands on, participate in Campus Christian Fellowship, and hang out with her bestest guy, Ezra. Hugs and love to all her family and friends and mucho thanks for all their support!

Lane Hanon (Jake) has been involved in a lot of local theatre in the past few years. He started with Bob Cratchit's Christmas Binge and has appeared in such shows as Seussical the Musical and Crimes of the Heart. He was most recently seen as “Ellerd” in ICCT's production of The Foreigner

Isaac Helgens (Josh) is a natural product of Iowa, pure ham. His talent was first evi-dent in the third grade when he had the lead role in Shoemaker And The Elves. He has act-ed in Bridge To Terabithia, Charlotte's Web, Meet Me In St. Louis, The Sound Of Music, was recognized for his powerful solo performance of The Tell Tale Heart, and played a com-plicated dual lead role in Bullshot Crummond. Isaac has also been heard on local and inter-net radio, doing voice over and voice acting, in addition to being an active performing musician.

Ben Lafayette (Jonny Warner) has been involved in community theater in Muscatine, IA from an early age, acting in plays at the Musser Public Library under the tutelage of Duffy DeFrance. In High School, he enjoyed playing character roles such as Gollum (The Hobbit), Dr. Einstein (Arsenic and Old Lace), Jesus (Godspell), Karl-Heinz (Edith Stein), Geronte (Scapin), and The Sergeant in Pirates of Penzance. His supporting roles include parts in Barnum, Brigadoon, and Kiss Me, Kate. He has alsodirected, designed lighting for a number of shows, as well as producing and directing film for local public access television. This is his first performance with ICCT.

Amanda Murray (Toffee) is full of terrifying tales of teenage torment. She actually married her date to the senior prom, so beware kiddos, IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOOOOOUUUUUUUU! Amanda adamantly supports Zombie Prom for striving to correct the notion that zombies are brain-eating numbskulls (if you kill a zombie by shooting it in the head, how would zombies reproduce if they went around eating brains? Honestly). Amanda has appeared in ICCT’s My Fair Lady, City Circle ’s Seussi-cal, and Catalyst Acting Company’s Tommy. She also recently won the annual Penguins Comedy Club open mic contest in Cedar Rapids. In other spooky news, Amanda will be a doctor of clinical psychology in 2 years. Mmmmm, braaaains.

Jennifer Russo (Coco) is thrilled to be in Iowa and in her first show with ICCT. Back home she performed in many productions at school and in the community. Favorite roles include: Lucy (You're a Good Man Charlie Brown), Cinderella (Into the Woods), and Chava (Fiddler on the Roof). She would like to thank her family for their continual sup-port, Brooks for being her lovey, the Obr's for becoming her second family here in Io-wa, all of her new friends, and Jeff for giving her this opportunity. Thanks!! 33 B!

Jasmine Scholz (Ginger) spent most of her life in Oregon and just moved to Iowa in mid-July for a change of pace, trading mountains and the ocean for cornfields. She is a flute player turned actress. Aside from playing flute in pit orchestras, she has been in Godspell, Aristophanes's The Birds, and two short one-act plays. She is very excited for this chance to work with Jeff, Maggie, and all the wonderful cast and crew, some of which have given her many rides to and from rehearsal. She would also like to add that the only reason she auditioned for this musical was that the word "zombie" was in the title, but is very pleased with her decision. She has also recently worked as an extra for the zombie film "Collapse" here in Iowa. Go zombies!

Ellen Stevenson (Delilah Strict) It's been a long time since Ellen has graced the stage at ICCT, but she is really glad to have this opportunity to do so again. The last show she was in was Dreamwell's production of The Drag, where she played a bald, bearded, but-ler. Ellen has been involved with nearly every aspect of theater, including directing, lighting, sound, and special effects. She would like to thank Jeff for asking her to be a part of this show, and to a great cast who have been a blast to work with. Now, get to class, everyone! That is all.

OFF STAGE

Spencer Lunquist (Hair/Makeup) recently graduated from The Salon Professional Academy this fall. He is currently working at Buzz Salon. Spencer is not new to the theater world. His theater credits include High School Musical directed by Jeff Shields and numerous other shows with City Circle and the Young Footliters .

Maggie Grosvenor Mowery (Music Director) loves accompanying talented musi-cians and became a pianist early in life as she listened and watched her father and moth-er work as music teachers, filling our home with musicians (which continues today!). After achieving a piano performance degree from the University Northern Iowa she continues to perform in a variety of musical venues having opportunity to work with many successful musicians along the way. In this locale she has worked with the Preucil School of Music, the University Of Iowa, Riverside Theatre, City Circle Acting Compa-ny and Iowa City Community Theatre. Music continues to fuel and assist her consulting work which can be found at www.maggiethecoach.com Enjoy the show!

Eben Seaman (Rehearsal Pianist) is an Iowa City native who now works here as a pia-nist, accompanist and performer. He divides his time between playing with classes for the U of Iowa Dance department, entertaining crowds at piano bars, and recording his original music with a rock trio. Eben can be seen playing regularly at the Iowa City Piano Lounge.

Jeff Shields (Director) has been involved with many different aspects of theatre throughout the midwest. In the Iowa City/Coralville area he has directed such produc-tions as Seussical the Muiscal (City Circle Acting Company) , Little Shop of Horrors (ICCT), My Fair Lady (ICCT), Die! Mommy! Die! (Dreamwell Theatre), Book of Liz (Dreamwell Theatre), Disney's High School Musical (Footliters Act II), Godspell (Catlayst Acting Company), and Sisters Rosensweig (Catalyst ACting Company). He currently serves as secretary to the board of directors at ICCT. He will be directing Moon Over Buffalo at Playcrafter Barn Theatre in Moline Illinois in January. www.jeffshields.net

Dylan Wheeler (Lights) has been interested in acting since he was 10 and interested in lighting since he was 15. He has learned a lot about lighting on the job, from a lot of knowledgeable volunteer and professional light designers. For the past few years, Dylan has been working at the Englert theater focusing a lot on lighting plays, ballets, con-certs, and whatever else comes through town. He doesn't know what he wants to do with his life in the long term, but he knows that theater will always be a big part of it.

A word from the director, Ben Bentler:

Wonderful Town is a show that is quite alive. The music is catchy and vivacious and the story is clever, funny, and honest. The possibilities are endless with the show. It is a hymn to New York City during a very lively jazz time and all the ingredients are there. It is a witty modern commentary on jazz of the 1930’s and is utterly American in concep-tion and execution from head to toe. It is current and characteristic of our people, and not paralleled by any other musical theatre, for better or worse, of the contemporaneous world. The electricity shoots back and forth over the storyline which projects such spirit, and is main-tained with such ingenuity and taste, that it is not for an instant vulgar or banal or less than triumph of invention. The show is an opera made of dance, meaningful music and song and speed. Its unflagging pulse is characteristic of its restless time and nervous environment. This Bernstein work towers over any of the other musical comedy scores of the day including Guys and Dolls. It’s youthfulness and exhilaration of the music are companioned and fully matched by every artistic ele-ment of the score and script. So with that I encourage you to look at this script and listen to this score from the ears of an anxious, fun, and struggling artist. It will truly bring you nothing but joy.
