Its iPhone mobile application allows you to make your social media interaction dynamic with real-time sharing of your photos and videos. iON and Realtree ® partner in July 2014 to launch the iON CamoCam, the first HD action cam that can be affixed to bows, rifles and fishing equipment. iON and the CamoCam are featured in Realtree’s Lifestyle booth at one of the largest outdoors tradeshows in the world, providing significant exposure to outdoorsmen, manufacturers and retailers. iON’s CamoCams were provided by Realtree to key individuals at the Outdoor Channel and Sportsman Channel and other media who used the cams during their hunting and fishing trips and featured the product and resulting videos on their television programs. 01 iOn CASE STUDY iON CamoCAM lets hunters and fishermen shoot and share their outdoor adventures. iON understood that, just as in other sports, there is a desire among hunters and fishermen to “shoot and share” their experiences, but there wasn’t a product available that was truly up to the task. That was when iON came up with the CamoCam concept. The CamoCam is based on iON’s popular Air Pro ® 2 HD Video camera, clad in Realtree Xtra ® camo with new features that make it the ideal choice for hunting and fishing. It is less expensive than similar video cams and has more accessories, including specially designed hardware for mounting the camera on a rifle, bow or fishing rod. The CamoCam is also waterproof to 30 feet without requiring a plastic box around it, and it’s very easy to use. The CamoCam is designed to run silently, a feature that any hunter recognizes as an advantage. Instead of an audible click or beep when the camera turns on or off, it vibrates. According to Bill McDonald, iON Marketing Consultant and Professional Angler, “iON embraces the hunting and fishing industry in ways that other manufacturers may not.” iON presented the CamoCam concept to executives at Walmart in December 2013 and they loved it. Walmart asked to see the CamoCam in January 2014, giving iON less than a month to develop the prototype for presentation. iON introduced Realtree to its manufacturer in China, and the two worked together to produce the prototype cameras. The process went very smoothly, thanks in part to the dedicated Realtree employees who worked through the holidays to make sure the product was ready in January 2014 for the presentation. The iON-Realtree partnership has been highly successful from both vantage points.

In a very short time iON and Realtree were enjoying a strong business partnership and a highly successful product launch. Both companies have aggressively pursued activities to make the CamoCam a success story. Realtree has provided considerable exposure to both iON and the CamoCam through tradeshows and various media channels and platforms.

According to Bill McDonald, “So far, the relationship has been extremely beneficial for iON. Not only has the CamoCam sold well, Realtree has provided considerable support to iON.” Realtree afforded iON space in its Lifestyle Booth at one of the largest national tradeshows in the country. Through this space, iON was able to reach a huge audience of hunters, outdoorsmen and the various manufacturers and retailers supporting these activities from all over the globe.

The CamoCam has been a featured product on Realtree’s website, providing a free source of advertising and significant exposure. Realtree also gave iON advertising space on its website. iON provided a number of CamoCams to Realtree personnel to try out during hunting and fishing trips. Realtree in turn provided additional CamoCams to key individuals at

the Outdoor Channel and Sportsman Channel, as well as other media who used the cams during their own hunting and fishing trips, and then featured the product and resulting videos on their television programs.

Likewise, iON provided instant channel access to Realtree because it is already in some of the biggest mass retailers, including Walmart and Best Buy. iON has invested significantly in marketing the CamoCam product through aggressive advertising, sponsorships and product placements. It has purchased advertising on the Outdoor Channel and Sportsman Channel, and has sponsored Realtree TV shows on these same channels.

They also placed video-monitors in Walmart so customers can see examples of action video taken during hunting and fishing trips.

“The iON-Realtree® partnership is on track to develop new products for a broader range of outdoor activities.

The CamoCam has been such a success, iON is considering the development of several other products that will allow the cam to be used for other sporting and leisure activities. McDonald sees the relationship between iON and Realtree growing and expanding.
