INVISIBLE SEEING IS BELIEVING: SCOTTSDALES INVISIBLE DREAM TEAM Presented by: Deanna Zuppan, Adapted Recreation Services Supervisor Dennis Enriquez, Business Services Director February 5, 2015 Slide 2 Scottsdale, AZ - General Information Located in Maricopa County, Arizona Total Land Area: 184.5 sq. Miles 2014 Population: 224,800 Senior Population: 43,471 (2010 Census) Disabled Population: 11,464 (5.1% of Pop.) Mayor/Council Form of Government Approximately 2,400 Employees Slide 3 Why are we here today? We are here as witnesses and co-creators of a fiscally sustainable alternative workforce model designed to enlist the capabilities of our disabled community. Slide 4 CAPABILITIES Slide 5 DISCLAIMER WARNING: What you are about to see is very real and sheds new light on something many of us would have never imagined to be possible. DO NOT BE AFRAID as you must see to believe. Slide 6 Steve and Christy Slide 7 Reality Check: This didnt happen overnight Staff shared that there was much fear of the unknown. There were many misperceptions/misunderstandings of our disabled population. Slide 8 STAFF FEARS Ive never worked with a person who has a disability. Weve never done this before. How can we ensure the confidentiality of sensitive financial records? Do we have to change our processes? Is it safe for us/them? Will this affect quality? Am I about to lose my job? Slide 9 Enough about us, what about them? While staff shared their concerns; we didnt know if people in our disabled community: 1) COULD perform the entry level duties we had in mind, and 2) WOULD they even consider working with us. Note: We needed help Mondays through Fridays, 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Slide 10 Idea to Reality Doing more with lessReally????? Read the Fine Print: This may be a good short term option, however, not a realistic long term solution. 2009 was a game changer for every organization to include Scottsdale. Our original idea stems from paying higher salaries for entry level duties
