What is an invigilator?The person in the examination room responsible for conducting a particular examination in the presence of candidatesThey have a key role in upholding the integrity of the external examination/assessment processThe role of the invigilator is to ensure that the examination is conducted as per the JCQ ‘ICE’ booklet

Why do you need invigilators?The invigilator is present at all times to ensure:
That all candidates have an equal opportunity to demonstrate their abilities
Security at all times - before, during and after the exam
That possible candidate malpractice is prevented
That possible administrative failures are prevented

Supervising the candidatesInvigilators must:
Supervise candidates throughout the whole time the examination is in progress - giving their complete attention to this duty at all times
Remain aware of emerging situations
Move around the assessment area quietly and at frequent intervals

Malpractice and other IrregularitiesIrregularities in the examination room must be recorded If a candidate is suspected of malpractice, the invigilator must warn the candidate that he/she may be removed from the examination roomRemind invigilators that they must record what has happened in the examination room.
In a case of suspected malpractice, invigilators should remove and keep any unauthorised material
