There can be little doubt that operating in the currenteconomic environment has provided a major challengefor many financial companies. In the wake of thecollapse of Lehman Brothers, the ongoing credit crisisand continued stock market uncertainty, consumerconfidence in the financial sector remains fragile. As aresult, clients are increasingly looking for reassurancethat the products they select offer good value formoney.
Although it has been another difficult year for thefinancial services industry, product providers have notbeen resting on their laurels. Indeed, the testingenvironment appears to have encouraged even moreproviders to enhance their propositions and improvetheir customer service in an attempt to stand out fromthe crowd. With competition in this year�s categoriesparticularly fierce, identifying the very best providershas been no mean feat.
TThhee cceerreemmoonnyyThe 2009 award winners were unveiled at a specialceremony held in the stunning surroundings of theBrewery in London on 25 September. Over 400industry professionals gathered to honour this yearsoutstanding providers and products.
Sylvia Waycot, Publisher of Moneyfacts, opened theproceedings with a warm welcome, before guestswere treated to a delicious three course lunch. Theawards were hosted by comedian Chris Barrie,renowned for his roles in television hits Red Dwarf and the Brittas Empire.
Also presented at the ceremony were the inauguralwinners of our Good Advice Awards, which recognisethe country�s very best adviser organisations.

Level term life insurance provides a fixed cash lump sum

Under the direction of Hudson since
1997, Cirencester friendly has gone
from strength to strength. Starting
with around 14,000 Members and
assets of £25 million, its latest results
show Membership close to 30,000
and assets of £47 million.
By developing stronger ties with
intermediaries, and supported by the
latest incarnation of its product,
Income Assured Plus, 2008 saw new
premium income grow by 16%1, with
new in-force contracts increasing by
almost 21%2.
Hudson points out that Cirencester
friendly’s healthy balance sheet and
investment growth has not been
achieved at the expense of contract
holders. In 2008 £1.9 million was paid
to Members in claims and a further
£2.3 million distributed to Members in
the form of bonuses - with any
surpluses used to make it a more
efficient and, indeed, an award-
winning company.
