Giving to the Junior League of Raleigh

2010-2011 Annual Report

2

We celebrated our 80th anniversary with a

proclamation from the Mayor of Raleigh to

commemorate the League’s many years of

service and to recognize the Junior League

of Raleigh for its outstanding commitment

to voluntarism and investment in numerous

community projects and programs.

Our investment in the community continued

with the Grand Opening of the Center for

Community Leadership which plays a vital role

in moving our community forward to meet the

urgent needs of the nonprofit sector. The Center

extends the League’s mission and broadens its

outreach to meet the space and training needs

of the diverse and growing Triangle community

and beyond. The center is also recognized as

an architectural gem as in the receipt of the

2011 Triangle Commercial Real Estate Women

(TCREW) award for the best redevelopment

project.

In parallel we continued our investment in our

members via leadership development with the

inaugural year of the Capital Leadership Initiative

(CLI) which provides relevant, engaging and

dynamic leadership programming for women in

our community and across the state.

Others outside the organization continued

to recognize our investments as well. Our

new cookbook, “You’re Invited Back” received

accolades from the SIBA - Southern Independent

Booksellers Alliance 2011 Book Award List.

Because of the dedication of our membership

we were able to accomplish many milestones

this past year and in turn created a lasting

impact to our community. The Junior League

of Raleigh is fortunate to have such a wealth

of talented women in our membership –

Sustainers, Provisionals and Actives, who are

dedicated to promoting voluntarism, developing

the potential of women and improving the

community through the effective action and

leadership of trained volunteers.

Thank you for investing in the community!

Wendy Webster

President 2010-2011

We are...An organization of more than 1,900 women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.

Since 1930, the Junior League of Raleigh gave more than $4.8 million to education, health and other services for women and children of Raleigh. Annually our 1,900 members donate approximately 50,000 hours of volunteer service to the community.

Since 2000, the target area of the Junior League of Raleigh has been promising youth. Our membership positively impacts the lives of children in our community through strategic partnerships and collaborations with other community agencies, volunteer placements, and the community grants we give annually.

The Junior League of Raleigh’s financial statements are audited annually. The condensed financial statements presented above are derived from the 2010-2011 audited financial statements prepared by the firm of Boyce, Furr & Company, LLP. A complete copy of such financial statements and auditor’s report may be obtained at League headquarters located at 711 Hillsborough Street in Raleigh or by calling 919-787-7480. In addition, ongoing planning and monitoring of Junior League of Raleigh’s income and expenditures are conducted by several in-League volunteer entities. The League’s Finance Committee is responsible for advising the Board of Directors and leadership councils on financial matters, assisting in the preparation of the annual budget, examining budgets of pro-posed projects, reviewing the League’s investment portfolio, and reviewing and approving the various reserved funds. Finance Committee members are also designated as liaisons to each Junior League of Raleigh committee. As liaisons, these Finance volunteers serve as information resources on financial matters, assisting committee Chairs in understanding their current year budgets and developing a budget for the next fiscal year. These efforts help assure sound finan-cial management and adherence to the Junior League of Raleigh’s fiscal and community service strategies.
