NEW DELHI, Apr 19:

Finance Minister Arun Jaitleytoday said investigative agenciesare doing their best to ensureextradition of controversial busi-nessman Vijay Mallya, who wasarrested in London yesterday andlater released on bail.

"I think the Government andall the investigating agencies arecertainly putting (in) their bestefforts because the agencies dobelieve that an offence has beencommitted for which the person(Mallya) is required in India,"the minister told reporters here.

The Minister further saidMallya's extradition is part ofthe "judicial process" in the UK.

"It's part of the judicialprocess in that country and thejudicial process functions oncertain considerations," he saidin response to queries regardingMallya's extradition.

Mallya, who has beendeclared a proclaimed offenderby Indian courts, was arrested inLondon by the Scotland Yardyesterday on India's request forhis extradition on fraud charges.

He was, however, released onbail a few hours later on a bailbond worth 6,50,000 pound. He isrequired to appear at WestminsterMagistrates' Court on May 17.
