What is the economic status quo inArgentina vis-a-vis the rest of the globe?Argentina has managed to live through and survive theglobal crisis pretty much unscathed. Yes, the countrys
fortunes are tied closely to our neighbor Brazil, but that isarguably one of the worlds most attractive growth plays.
Has investor confidence recovered in Argentina? Not yet. There are still issues that need to be resolved. Thebusiness environment in general needs more transparencyand predictability. Despite this, we see more foreign clientsand investors preparing to enter Argentina in 2011/12when the prospects and political future are more certain.
Who is investing in Argentina now?Sophisticated private equity funds and institutional investorswho have been here for some time. Also foreign companies, many from the U.S. and the E.U., that have seized onopportunities in various sectors like agriculture, lithium, gold and silver mining, utilities and of course real estate.
How is the real estate boom in Argentinadifferent than what we saw in the U.S.?
This is not a credit-fueled speculative bubble. 90-95% of realestate purchases are all cash. Local and foreign investorslike the security of investing in a tangible asset class.
Can you tell us about d:biz Interactive?d:biz is an interactive business website which launchedJanuary 15, 2004 as DestefanoBIZ. At the time we had2,000 readers and 1 sponsor. Today, we have over 20,000
followers (or bizers) and close to 100 sponsors. My initialidea was to build an online community of executives withthe goal of communicating, networking and creating aunique business environment of insider information.
Who are some of your major sponsors?d:biz sponsors include Prosegur Activa, Hyundai, Movistar,Ernst & Young, Issue, Bodegas Norton, Howard Johnson,Uruguay Link, Telecom Italia, Fiat, Columbia, EuropAssistance, Pernod Ricard, Editorial Aguilar, Profertil, GI
Group, MasterCard, Davidoff and Kraft among others.
What luxury goods do Argentines value?Fine watches and imported autos have always been two ofthe most prestigious luxury goods in Argentina, and nowwere starting to see more luxury brand associations withreal estate developments and championship golf courses.
Are Argentine consumers brand-oriented?Yes, Argentine buyers are very marquero (as we sayhere), because Argentines travel a great deal and want toenjoy the same brands here that they experienced abroad.
To request more information from any of these BA professionals, send your inquiry to [email protected].
What is Procrearte International?Procrearte is a Buenos Aires-based reproductive andmolecular institution dedicated to fertility research. Ourclinicians and scientists are constantly conducting research
into the causes of infertility, so our patients have access tothe latest technology and best possible treatments.
What are the primary goals of your clinic? We aim to give our clients the best possible chance ofhaving a normal healthy baby, while going through as fewstimulated cycles as absolutely necessary. Assistedconception can involve very sophisticated medicaltreatments, so it is our goal to minimize the impact of thesetreatments on the life of the patient.
How much do typical treatments cost?Depending on your country of origin, fertility treatmentstypically cost 3-4x less than similar treatments in the UnitedStates and the EU. IVF with ICSI is priced at US$4,000, EggDonor (4 Eggs Guaranteed) is $4,6000 and OocyteVitrification costs $3,000. (Medications are an added cost).
What accreditations does Procrearte hold?We are proud members of the International Organizationfor Standardization ISO-9001/2000, SAMER and the LatinAmerican Network of Assisted Reproduction.

Surprise Carils hungry parakeetswhile they are feasting on a juicy, fertilelawn, their little wings disguised byblades of grass, and theyll take off in
unison, a magical green carpet flyingaway in search of pastures new.
These chattering birds are part and parcelof the green dune landscape - which iswhat Caril means in the MapucheIndian language and they even have asandy street named after them: Cotorra.Perfectly at home in the eucalyptus and
marine pine trees, building nests high upin the air, they chatter happily amongthemselves, content with their lot.
My Caril home, however, is at groundlevel, albeit set on its own green duneamong the pines and the eucalyptus and it wasnt a hard decision to trade insouth-east London for Argentina.
Moving to the southern hemispherecame easily, but pinpointing co-ordinatesdidnt until we stopped off at the leafyentrance to this small coastal town.
Winding our way down a sandy tunnelformed by trees linking arms, we hadstepped into a luscious woodland havenwhere nature is number one and green isthe color of preference.
Originally a holiday hotspot for wealthyporteos averse to glitzy Punta del Estein Uruguay, Caril offers seclusion and
space in a 90-year-old pine forest locatedalongside 300-meter wide beaches. Theirresistible combination of genuine peaceand quiet combined with a strange yetmagical Alpine feel in the air just metersfrom golden beaches sealed the deal. Nostreet lights. No tarmac roads. No needto think twice. We were in.

getting there
Although January and February are teeming with families renting one of the 3,000houses for a fortnight as a means to escape the city jungle of Buenos Aires, Decemberand March are ideal shoulder months to watch Caril begin to bloom. The temperaturesare warm, and the beach clubs are busy erecting tents and setting up surf schools.
We checked out dozens of properties in the area until we finally bought in Caril - it wastoo perfect a place and too perfect an opportunity. And in the past four years Caril hasseen plenty of expansion as have neighboring Pinamar and Mar de las Pampas.
Throughout 2010, the weekend getaway buzz word has been Caril among Argentinesand expats, so summer 2011 is bound to be busy, well, as busy as can be expected for ahidden-away, beach-side pine forest just four hours south of Buenos Aires.

InvestBA had the privilege of sitting down with Martin Churba, one of Argentinas most revered designers and creator of
Tramando, in his Recoleta atelier and was able to gain some insight into what makes this genius tick. Churba took some time
away from putting the finishing touches on his seventh anniversary collection, called ADN Flower Power, to chat with us about
his background, inspiration, and future goals.
When Martin Churba was 22 years old, he spent his days as a silk screener in a
MARTNCHURBA TRAMANDO
textile factory.Fascinated by what he calls the dialogue between painting andtexture, he asked the owner (who happened to be his uncle) if he could stay
late to experiment. Luckily for fashion enthusiasts everywhere, his uncleagreed. It was here that Churba discovered the textile that has become
his signature. One night while working, he draped a piece of the material
over his leg and realized that he had to use it to dress the body. And it washere that his journey as a designer began.
Churba has come a long way since then. Now one of the most celebrated figures in Argentine fashion, his designs are sold in Japan,France, Italy, the US, the UAE, and of course, Argentina, under that brand Tramando. One thing that has remained constant; however, isthe influence that art plays on the designers work.He cites Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, and contemporary Japanese artistKusama Yayoi as sources of inspiration. It should be noted that these artists, not unlike Churba himself, are known for theirexperimentation with techniques and their ability to successfully mix mediums. In fact, when looking for inspiration for a newcollection, he often finds himself in the ateliers of artists, collaborating and experimenting with them and exploring the boundaries
of art and design. This experimentation is evident, not only in his gorgeous, intricate, architectural designs (which are, in and ofthemselves, works of art), but also in his Buenos Aires showroom which houses a new elaborate installation four times a year.

In an industry where youth is revered and
models over the age of 22 are preparing for
retirement, it is rare to find a designer whose
clothing suits and flatters a wide age range.Tramando is one of these rare brands and
Churba is one of these rare designers. Of hismuse, a filmmaker and close friend, he says,
She is not twenty. She is not thirty. But she isbeautiful and has a young soul. His designsare for women over thirty who have the
maturity and confidence that comes only with
age and, although bordering on avant-garde,
Churba assures that his garments have no age
limit.
My mother is 63, he says. She wearsmy clothes and looks great.
Of Buenos Aires, the city he calls home,
Churba says that there is a growing energy
and sense of development that is almostpalpable. He encourages visitors toexperience the city through its people, to
become a part of this growth, forming
relationships that allow them to meet
people in different circles and industries. The city is known throughout the world as
a hub of creativity but now we are starting
to create platforms for action, he explains..
When asked who he would choose if he
could dress anyone in the world, his
answer is rather surprising. Rather than a
celebrity or political figure, he thought for
a moment before deciding on the next
female winner of the novel Peace Prize. What would he create for this visionary? "Iwould have to meet her first," he says. "But
I would just want to make her happy." He
can rest assured that he has done just that
for many women the world over.

Javier Luna began his career at the age of 19, working in a small hair salon in Buenos Aires. Heperfected his craft while working in some of the fashion capitals of Europe, including Paris (where hewas awarded second prize by Intercoiffeur International), Milan, and London. Now back in BuenosAires, at the helm of Javier Luna Hair Design, Luna sat down with VanityBA to discuss his designphilosophy and his future plans.
From his chic, vintage-style salon in Palermo, Luna talks about the plans he has for expansion. In a
month and a half, he will open his second salon at the Tortugas Open Mall in the suburbs of theArgentine capital. The feng shui-inspired space will include a gourmet caf so patrons will be able tocompletely indulge and relax in an atmosphere of luxury and positive energy. A third salon is set toopen in Buenos Aires's ritzy Puerto Madero neighborhood early next year. In addition to this, Lunahas a hair care line in the works that will be out in September. The collection of shampoos, conditioners and glosses will be available only in Javier Luna salons, but he hopes to eventually offer
the products in "peluquerias" throughout Argentina. When asked about his proverbial "five-year plan,"Luna expresses his desire to open salons in London, Mexico City, and Punta del Este.
However, don't be fooled into thinking that this master coiffure's main focus is on becoming a
household name. Quite the contrary. Luna believes in personalized service and has no desire for hissalons to spring up on every street corner like Starbucks. "My success comes from being able to helpindividuals," Luna explains earnestly. "Every client is different. Every client is special. And everyclient deserves special treatment." Model and close friend of Luna's, Carola Kirkby, chimes in,"That's why people love coming to Javier's salon; he is always here." It is this attitude and dedication
to his work that has attracted some of the most beautiful women in the world to him: ClaudiaSchiffer, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, and Mariana Fabbiani have all worked with Luna.
When I brought in a picture of Penelope Cruz and asked for her cut, Luna thoughtfully looked at thepicture and then began to snip away, telling me about the time he styled her hair for a L'Orealcommercial filmed in Rome. Any doubts I had about my new style were instantly alleviated.

We recently covered Prodeo Lounge & Suites' wine tasting on VanityBA, and ataste was enough to bring us back to this chic, modern property in Palermo Soho.Owner Mike Abridello was prompted to open the hotel-restaurant-bar after hemoved to Buenos Aires several years ago and noticed the lack of comparableestablishments in the up-and-coming neighborhood. Now Prodeo stands as a chicwatering hole for well-heeled Porteos and international visitors alike.
The gastro-lounge at Prodeo is without a doubt one of the highlights. ExecutiveChef Jeroen Van den Bos has traveled the globe, perfecting his craft in some ofthe world's most acclaimed restaurants, including the De Karmeliet in Bruges. AtProdeo, Van den Bos has created a menu that "marries French cooking techniqueswith an intensity and array of international flavors and local ingredients." Guestscan enjoy everything from appetizers while sitting at the bar to a gourmet 7-coursemeal in the two-story restaurant. The chic, minimalistic bar offers a creativecocktail menu (Mango Chili Martini, anyone?) in a trendy, yet comfortableatmosphere. As the BA weather warms up the action will undoubtedly move outback where guests can relax at the pool with a fully-stocked bar.
Abridello says he doesn't target a specific demographic, but admits that Prodeotends to attract a well-traveled and internationally minded clientle. The entire stafffits this description as well. If not expats themselves, they are locals with extensiveinternational experience and an understanding of the standards and service levelProdeo's guests expect. The suites currently serve as private residences but will beavailable for nightly booking by year-end.
