THE AREA OF MUSKOKA was originally occupied by Native Canadians, mainly consisting of the Algonquin and Huron tribes in the 1600s. Largely unsettled until the late 1760s the European presence in the region was largely limited to seasonal fur trapping and remained that way until the mid 1800s.
