my client catherine grubesic wants a girly space that is cutting edge. she is very independent and would like that to reflect in her design. the challenge of the design is to create a modern space with a twist of traditional elegance. to do this we plan to include a mixture of clean straight edges and curves to promote femininity. she loves the look of expensive modern art but would like an inviting space to entertain as well.

sunday’s best is a privately owned high end apparel retail store in mission beach san diego, california. the owner’s name is ally maynard. she is a 26 year old graduate from san diego state university with a bachelor’s degree in apparel design and just got a business license to open sunday’s best. the store’s target market is 18-25 year old women. the biggest competitor around the area is urban outfitters.expensive modern art but would like an inviting space to entertain as well.

Perk! is a new internet cafe located in an upscale open air shopping center. Perk! specializes in espresso drinks, smoothies, creative sandwiches and fresh pastries. They use all natural, organic and sustainable products, purchased from local venders and encourage their clients in a healthy lifestyle. They want the design of their space to continue this philosophy of a reduced environmental footprint and a healthy interior environment. The front of the shopping center has stone from the sidewalk up to 30”, the windows go from 30” and are 7’-0” high. The floor is a concrete slab. There is a trench line for plumbing. Additional plumbing trench may be extended from main floor trench, up to a total of 15’-0”

the goal of this design is to create a comfortable and functional kitchen for 74 year old edita kazlauska. the space will include a kitchen. the design must abide by universal design planning to prepare for the future of possible wheelchair usage. the kitchen must have a prep area for an authentic polish sausage stuffer. the area must have a seating area to accommodate her mobility aid. the kitchen must have a living area with edita’s favorite recliner and a television. this space must be compliant of edita’s physical needs as well as a mid-century modern look to remind her of her favorite times as a teenager in the 1950s.

designthe goal of this design is to create a comfortable and functional bathroom for 74 year old edita kazlauska. the space will include a bathroom. the design must abide by universal design planning to prepare for the future of possible wheelchair usage. the bathroom must have radiant floor heating. the shower must have a seat to accommodate her mobility aid. the bathroom storage must be able to house queen sheets, 6 bath towels, 3 hand towels, 3 wash cloths., toilet cleaning apparatus and products, and 6 rolls of toilet paper as well as a mini-laundry facility and laundry storage. the mini-laundry station must have a folding and hanging space.

seraphina and oliver alvarado are a couple for san francisco they are in their mid 30’s and want to start a new life here in ft collins co. seraphina worked at starbucks as a manager in downtown san francisco and oliver worked at an art museum as a gallery coordinator. they wouldn’t say they were burnt out on their job choices but wanted to follow their dreams and open their own bakery. they chose ft. collins because they loved the laidback atmosphere and the local artistic talent. they loved the location they chose because it was right in the middle of downtown and easy to walk to from other local businesses. both clients have a deep appreciation for sustainability and green building, and would like to pursue leed certification for the project.
