The iskn story iskn started with an invention that revolutionizes the way we interact with the digital world.The story began five years ago at CEA-Leti, a laboratory in Grenoble that specializes in electronics and microtechnologies. Timothée Jobert, a user experience specialist, and Jean-Luc Vallejo, head of the user experience innovation department, were thinking about how objects in our everyday lives can be used to interact with the digital world as effortlessly as possible.

Early on, an idea emerged for a magnetic ring whose motions could be tracked by a network of magnetic sensors. Tristan Hautson, an embedded systems engineer, joined the team, and was able to provide proof of concept in just a few months.

A Successful Crowdfunding CampaignOn September 10, 2013, a Kickstarter campaign was launched with the goal of raising $35,000 in one month. The iSketchnote project ended up raising nearly ten times that amount, or $346,127. With more than 300 mentions in the press and over 5,000 tweets, the project gained visibility and brought together a community of 2,500 supporters who stayed involved throughout the product development phase.

Three founders, one obsession: bringing physical objects back into the digital world The three men believed that tangible and digital elements could be combined in a complementary way to attain unparalleled scope and elicit specific emotion. So they decided to combine their complementary skills and continue the project by founding iskn on February 14, 2014.

Tristan HautsonDirector of Research and DevelopmentAfter earning a degree in electronics and embedded systems from the engineering school ENSEIRB-MATMECA in 2010, Tristan Hautson began working for CEA-Leti on an internal resourcing project. The goal was to use a triaxial magnetometer network to track a magnet in 3D. He studied this technology for 18 months and developed electronic prototypes, dedicated algorithms, and

demonstration models that showcased new possibilities. Over a two-year period, the technology matured and 11 patents

were filed. In 2014, he left his position at CEA and became Director of Research and Development at iskn, a start-up founded to promote this technology.


Timothée JobertUX and Design DirectorWith a PhD in contemporary history, Timothée Jobert went on to specialize in technology design and user experience at Minatec Ideas Lab from 2006 to 2007. He then joined a start-up specializing in motion capture (Movea) and led a project on gaming. In 2010, he began working for a technological innovation laboratory at CEA Grenoble. There he developed a business focused on interaction design and user experience. He led several projects with major companies (ST Ericsson, Oxylane, Sanofi…) on concepts such as

mobility and smart homes. In late 2010, he met Tristan Hautson and Jean-Luc Vallejo, and together they launched a new

iskn technology project. In 2014, he left his position at CEA and became Managing Director and Director of User Experience at iskn.


Jean-Luc VallejoChief Executive OfficerIn 2008, Jean-Luc Vallejo finished his training and earned a Mas-ter’s degree in innovation management. In 2010, he met Timothée Jobert and Tristan Hautson. They came up with the idea of using new technology from CEA-Leti to digitize handwriting while using a sheet of paper and pens that had no electronics.At the time, he was the head of a laboratory for user-centered technological innovation.In 2014, he left CEA-Leti to found iskn with his partners and be-came the CEO.
