2. How do we gain knowledge of our environment? Through the cognitive preference Perception! Jung determined that the cognitive functions associated with Perception are. INTUITION and SENSATION Jung labeled these the Irrational Functions, not because they are faulty, but because they require no decision making.think of these functions as a perpetual filter or method of input through which we take in the world. What we actually do with this information is left to our 3. MBTI: Intuition Of the 16 MBTI personality types, 8 will have the letter N (for Intuition) in their four letter personality code. Some Type Examples: INTJ, ENFJ or INFPs, while being vastly different, will all have a preference for intuiting reality over sensing by way of gut feelings and hunches, often referred to as a sixth sense. Tend to just know that they know something. May even refer to dreams as a source of their knowledge---dreams speak in the language of intuition. The Intuitive learns that knowledge and ideas which come to them often can be supported by established sources elsewhere if only they know where to look. Flights of imagination and thoughts from out of nowhere are some observable tendencies of those under the influence of their intuition. They might have a tendency to literally get sucked in into ideas and activities. Unfortunately, their behavior is often misinterpreted as an indication that they do not take their responsibilities seriously. May also struggle a great deal with organizing and structuring their daily routine. If able to live a lifestyle that fits their needs and preferred way of doing things, intuitive individuals can offer extraordinary insights in their chosen fields and about the human condition in general. If properly nurtured, intuition is a wellspring of creativity. Overall, someone with a strong preference for Intuition will have a much lower preference for Sensing their environment . 4. MBTI: Sensing Of the 16 MBTI personality types, 8 will have the letter S (for Sensing) in their four letter code. Some Type Examples: An ISTJ, ESFP, or ISFJ while displaying completely different personality traits, will be much more in touch with the physical world around them than their Intuitive counterparts. They prefer to attend to and notice how things smell, look, or feel with their five senses. If a gut feeling does arise its validity will be measured against their knowledge of the physical. Sensors are likely to prefer routines and organization of their world in a way that ensures things get done in a timely fashion. Valuing rhyme and reason, a sensor will not take well to explanations or ideas based on fantasy. Sensing types with a preference for thinking are very skilled at building, creating, fixing, and designing physical objects or spaces. Those with a feeling preference have a knack for building and creating strong relationships through actions that increase solidarity. Their sense of the physical world may also help them arrange the environment in a way that enhances feelings of connection, knowing what people need to feel comfortable.----this ability can be contrasted with their intuitive counterparts who are much better at knowing what lies beneath the surface of interactions and can improvise in conversation. Overall, someone with a strong preference for perceiving the world with Sensation will 5. The Primary Distinction Between N & S (N) Intuitives have a future focus and usually want to understand the relationships between details and how they make up the big picture. They notice patterns and possibilities between connections everywhere! (S) Sensors have more of a focus on the present and are concerned with what is available to them through their 5 senses. They notice the here-and-now and want concrete details that are relevant to their physical reality! 6. Common Pitfalls of N & S The Laissez-faire approach of the Intuitive versus the Methodical Planning of the Sensor The pathological Sensor may be overly strict and rigid, controlling everything in an attempt to feel secure. The pathological Intuitive is a train- wreck, heading for ruin without a method to their madness. 7. Intuition VS Sensation Future Oriented, Connections and Here and Now, Concrete, Five Senses!
